Pray for Vocations!
Sooner or later everything that begins on earth comes to its end, like the meadow grass that springs up in the morning and by evening has wilted. In Baptism, however, the tiny human being receives a new life, the life of grace, which enables him or her to enter into a personal relationship with the Creator forever, for the whole of eternity. Unfortunately, human beings are capable of extinguishing this new life with their sin, reducing themselves to being in a situation which Sacred Scripture describes as "second death".

DATE
Year of Consecrated Life During this year, we highlight those Religious Communities who are currently ministering in the Diocese of Hamilton. We pray in thanksgiving for the witness of their lives and the contributions they make to our Church in Hamilton Diocese.
St. John’s Parish Mission Statement We believe deeply that Jesus Christ is in our midst, in ourselves and in each other. In our faith journey we will be the heart, hands, feet and voice of Jesus Christ, reaching out to all.
Sister Adorers of the Precious Blood The Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood were founded in St. Hyacinthe, Québec, in l861 at a time when there were no contemplative communities in Canada. Catherine Aurelia Caouette, the Foundress, was a young woman with an exceptional understanding and appreciation of the Precious Blood of Jesus given for the salvation of all people. She founded a Community called to live and share this devotion. The heart of her spirituality is “to be a sign of the boundless love with which Jesus shed His Blood to redeem the world. The foundation of the Congregation and its essential spirit is LOVE, a love which is expressed through a life of prayer lived in community for the service of the Church”. Our vocation is to be united with Jesus in adoration of the Father and in offering ourselves on behalf of the whole human family in reparation, intercession, praise and thanksgiving. Ours is a ministry of prayer within contemplative community life. The Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours are celebrated daily in Community. In Canada we have monasteries in the Dioceses of Hamilton, London, Regina and Calgary. We have 49 professed religious and five young women in our Formation House in London. In addition there are four American monasteries, two in Japan and one in St. Hyacinthe, Québec. At the time of its foundation each Monastery is given a name. Our Foundation Day in Hamilton was May 14th, 1946. As the world was still suffering from the World War II years, our foundation was given the name “Our Lady Queen of Peace”. Prayer for peace is part of our daily life. At our Hamilton Monastery Altar Breads (Communion hosts) are produced and supplied to other monasteries for distribution throughout Canada. Our monastery, which accommodates 24 Sisters, includes a health care facility which serves our entire Congregation. Please visit our website: www.pbsisters.on.ca.
Vocation Ovation Banquet The KW Serra Club will be celebrating Vocations on Wednesday, January 21, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 173 Lourdes St., Waterloo beginning with Mass at 5:30 pm celebrated by Bishop Daniel Miehm. This event will acknowledge the beginning of the “Year of Consecrated Life” proclaimed by Pope Francis. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased by Friday, January 15, 2015. Whereas for other creatures who are not called to eternity, death means solely the end of existence on earth, in us sin creates an abyss in which we risk being engulfed for ever unless the Father who is in Heaven stretches out his hand to us. This is the mystery of Baptism: God desired to save us by going to the bottom of this abyss himself so that every person, even those who have fallen so low that they can no longer perceive Heaven, may find God's hand to cling to and rise from the darkness to see once again the light for which he or she was made. We all feel, we all inwardly comprehend that our existence is a desire for life which invokes fullness and salvation. This fullness is given to us in Baptism.
SACRAMENTS Rest in Peace May Jesus, who is the Bread of Life, remember unto Life Everlasting, Geremia Nespoli and Lorella Maggiolo whom we commend to His loving care

Ordinary Time The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord brings the Christmas Season to a close. During Ordinary Time, the Church celebrates the fullness of the mystery of the Lord Jesus. The people of God offer praise by celebrating the Paschal Mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus. On the first day of the week, the Lord’s Day, God assembles the beloved people to hear the word, to reflect upon it, to offer the living sacrifice of praise, and to eat and drink the banquet of the Lord. Then God send them forth to proclaim this love by their words and actions. Sunday is the original Christian Feast Day, following the tradition handed down from the apostolic times, for this was the day of the Lord’s resurrection. Today’s Christian communities continue this tradition by celebrating every Sunday as the day of the risen Lord.
