Land Rover Freelander SideBar Fitting Instructions Safety These Landrover Freelander side bars must be fitted by a competent mechanic and it must be ensured that they are securely fitted. If the vehicle is involved in an accident the bars must be thoroughly inspected for damage and replaced if any damage is visible to the bars / fitting bolts or mounting holes. Tools Required 1) Jack 2) Axle stands 3) 1 x 13mm spanner (or socket) 4) Nutsert Fitting Tool 5) Drill ( 11mm chuck size or bigger ) 6) 17mm socket and driver Freelander Side Protection bar Kit Contents 2 side-bars (1 x left and 1 x right ) 8 x M8 Nutserts 8 x M8x30 Stainless Steel Bolts, 8 x Plain Washers, 8 x Spring Washers Fitting Details STEP 1 - Jack up the Freelander and place securely on axle stands STEP 2 - Use diagram below to deduce which side-bar is left hand side and which is right hand side by looking at the mounting bracket detail.

STEP 3 - Position each side-bar under the Freelander and lift into position carefully. Identify the fitting holes in the inner sill and chassis rail. Remove any screws already fitted in these holes and discard. (Diagram below indicates how the bars fit to the inner sill and chassis rail). NOTE on some Freelanders the holes are covered with bits of felt to prevent water ingress and you may need to press to find the hole ) STEP 4 - Open up each of the holes to 11mm diameter by drilling out with a 11mm drill. STEP 5 – For each of the 8 holes tap each the nutsert into the hole until the lip is flat against chassis / sill. STEP 6 - Using a nutsert tool tighten the nutsert so that the collar collapses and the nutsert is secure.

STEP 7 – Fit each bar to the Freelander, using the plain washer, spring washer and M8 x 30mm bolt in each nutsert. Hand tighten initially until the position of the bar has been correctly aligned. STEP 8 - Torque each bolt to 16Nm- tightening the sill bolts first then the chassis leg bolts – this allows the bars to align correctly and reduce the force on the sill rivnuts. STEP 9 - Ensure that each bar is secure and well aligned. Check that each door opens without touching the sidebars. STEP 10 - Safely remove the axle stands and lower the Freelander to the ground. Care and Cleaning These side protection bars are made from premium grade Stainless Steel and are extremely corrosion resistant. To enhance the appearance of the product we recommend regular polishing with Autoglym metal polish. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to periodically check the fixing bolts to ensure that they are secure.
