Al Brown gave an overview of SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results), the strategic planning process that will be utilized for creating a 3-year plan for the Chequamegon School District. Mr. Brown advised that at the end of the planning process, the committee should meet once a year and report on what has been accomplished and what wasn’t. Then pull out what to work on for the 2nd year. There may be new ideas brought in, but he advises that it takes discipline but you should stay focused on the plan in place. Also, the plan progress should be an ongoing board meeting agenda item every 3-4 months to keep the process flowing. Attendees were divided into diverse groups of approximately 4-6. A SOAR Analysis sheet was given to each group. The sheet was broken down into the 4 SOAR components: Strengths – What are the strengths of our school district? Opportunities – What opportunities do we provide the students and community members of our school district? Aspirations – What are our aspirations or goals for our students and school district? Results – What are the desired results of a Chequamegon School District education? Each group took time to discuss each component and record their responses. When the groups finished, Mr. Brown asked a representative of each group to share one response with the entire committee. The submitted responses will be compiled and published on the district website. An exit survey was handed out to complete and turn in. Meeting ended at 8:30 p.m.
