Thank You Members & Friends! 2016 was another full-packed year for LSPAA!
While the first quarter had been
relatively quiet, the full capacity Ateneo-La Salle-UP BowlALU Reheat in April jumpstarted the intensity for the rest of the year. We participated in various occasions to send our sweet goodbyes to friends at the Philippine Embassy, Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia in May and Minister & Consul General Emil T. Fernandez in September. We also had our share of a sad goodbye to our dear Gladys Tordil in May. We needed to respond to the plight of the La Salle Greenbrier kids who got flooded in West Virginia in June which necessitated an offsite passport processing collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in August. We had a great dinner-meeting with the Greenbrier kids CSB Dean Angelo Lacson and Student Affairs VP Carmelita Lazatin in July together with the key staff from the Philippine Embassy led by the Deputy Chief of Mission Patrick Chuasoto. We have been honored with the 3day visit of the DLSU President Br. Ray Suplido together with Derrick Yu, Boy Kalaw & Edwin Reyes in July highlighted with a meet-and greet with LSPAA members and Virginia country tours. We wrapped up a successful Green Tee Golf participated in by 78 players and 31 LSPAA volunteers in October. Meanwhile, efforts to sell the Green Tee Grand Raffle tickets, with a major prize of round-trip tickets for 2 from Dulles to Manila sponsored by ANA, continued on even after the Green Tee Golf . LSPAA families hosted the 2016 DLSU Model United Nations delegates in November. LSPAA sent a support delegation to the St. Bernadette fund-raising in November and the Paskong UP gala in early December. Finally, the year was capped by the whole day Pasko Berde 2016 where the Green Tee Grand Raffle prizes were drawn. Indeed, LSPAA is a living, breathing organization that would not have survived without the generosity of time and resources of its members and friends. To all of you, thank you for your support to LSPAA! May you be blessed more in the New Year! ANIMO La Salle!

Dec. 10. 2016 – Lorton Station Community Clubhouse. It was another whole-day Christmas celebration for LSPAA members and friends! It started with the venue set-up at 10 AM, choir practice at 11, mass celebration at 12, potluck lunch at 2:30, impromptu games, dancing and sing-along, dinner at 6, Green Tee Grand Raffle drawing at 6:30, more dancing, singing, picture-taking and venue clean-up at 9 PM. Cleaning was over at 9:30 but everyone still seemed so hyped up so those who still had room for more booze went on to a post-party nightcap at Elmer & Leony’s in Springfield until 1 AM! The Holy Mass, officiated by Msgr. Manny Balbago for 3 years in a row now was an offering of thanks to all members and friends and a commemoration of Niok Karaan’s 2nd death anniversary. The master of ceremonies, Joey Velilla and Ron Diokno, effectively kept the ball rolling for about 6 hours of unscripted programming. The LSPAA lechon and the members’ potluck dishes provided enough for two meals. Feel the fun and excitement at the Pasko Berde 2016 picture and video gallery in the next page.
Bente Berde Built a Little Red Schoolhouse Bente Berde, the LSPAA 20th anniversary fund-raising event in 2014, has benefited not only the One La Salle Scholarship Program and the La Salle Bahay Pag-asa for boys in Dasmarinas Cavite, it also built two classrooms at the Santo Nino-de la Paz Elementary School in earthquake and Haiyan-ravaged town in Loon, Bohol with another fund sponsor Paul & Lorinda Mola. The construction was a collaboration among Feed the Hungry in Washington DC, Commission on Filipinos Overseas and Clean Makers Construction and Services. LSPAA wholeheartedly thanks all members and friends who participated in the Bente Berde fund raising campaign. ANIMO!

The DLSU Model United Nations Kids For the second straight year, LSPAA hosted another group of young and talented DLSU students chosen to participate in the annual Model United Nations Conference being held at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park. They compete against students from 40 plus countries in tackling global issues. They were assigned to represent New Zealand. By MUN conference design, country delegates are assigned to represent countries other than their own. (Click on the picture icons for more.)
They came….
They worked & played…
They conquered…!!!
Nov 4, 2016. Thirteen DLSU MUN students came and 11 were hosted by 4 LSPAA families in Virginia: Gogi & Patricia Goduco in Lorton; Bennie & Norie Benedicto in Alexandria; Aurora Arellano in Springfield; and Elmer & Leony Rosario in Springfield. Airport pickup and drop off were also provided by Adjo Gonzalez, Manny Santiago and Raffy Rivera. Welcome to DC Bianca Ruiz, Darleen Viray, Victorino Guillermo, Giancarlo Inacay, Santiago I. Teodoro, Agerico Soriano, Claro Manzano, Nicollo Mondoñedo, Missy Mendoza, Reese Mujer, Annika Carlos, Mikaella Vinluan, and RJ Sotelo.
These kids underwent 4 months of daily training while in Manila. They came one week before the scheduled conference and not a day was left to waste as they explored DC from morning till night, rain or shine! And they continue to do serious reviews in the evening too!
Nov 13, 2016. Congratulations MUN delegates 2016 for winning the Distinguished Delegation Award (2nd highest level among all awards), Outstanding Position Paper Award for the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and Outstanding Position Paper Award for SC (Security Council). LSPAA is very proud of you! Animo La Salle!!!
