In 3rd and 4th grade science we have been studying The Relationship of Living Things. In an activity we went outside and marked off two ecosystems. We monitored them for a week. We put saltine crackers and Kit-Kat bars in them. We wrote down what we saw in our ecosystems. We wrote what organisms were alive and what were non-living. I also attached literature to the unit by reading a book titled Urban Roosts. We read that and then took a walk around the city of Orient. We compared and contrasted the book to our city. We learned that we share our ecosystem with so many animals. It was amazing to see the similarities. The kids had a great time. We are learning so much about the ecosystem that we live in.
