Our theme is;

Journeys, To Infinity and Beyond. Physical Development The children are becoming keen to cut and stick. Using scissors is an excellent, pre-writing skill which develops fine motor control. Please encourage your child to have a go (with supervision) at cutting and snipping with child scissors. The children are all very proud when they can put on and take off their coats independently. We are helping them to pull up the zip and many can fasten the zip as well! Look out for a new display in the porch which will encourage your child to put on and take off their coat with increasing independence. Mathematics A large and vital part of this subject area is problem solving. It is useful to help your children to complete jigsaws and other types of puzzle as they use lots of excellent strategies to do so. It is also helpful to use numbers in a range of practical contexts such as counting how many pieces of orange they have, sharing fairly, working out how many more they need. Also, spotting shapes in the environment – looking at how many sides, points or corners they have.

Communication and Language We have been using a strategy called Talk for Writing to help the children to memorise and retell stories. They have thoroughly enjoyed learning ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and can perform it confidently. I am sure you have all provided excellent audiences for their story-telling! The children are given many opportunities to introduce storylines and narrative into their play, often using their existing knowledge of familiar stories and settings to great effect.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development Through a range of stories, games and activities, we are learning to look for similarities and differences all around us. This sometimes means spotting the odd one out and leads to open-ended discussions about why. The boys and girls are enjoying the responsibility of being a helper at Nursery, making sure that each milk carton has a straw and selecting the picture to show their friends the snack they can choose. This has led to increasing confidence when speaking to others about own needs, wants, interests and opinions. The children are so independent now!

Literacy We will focus upon initial sounds, alliteration and begin to explore different voice sounds during phonics activities. We would like your help to set up the sound table in the porch. It helps the children to grasp the initial letter sounds when they have brought in something that is meaningful to them. This will help the children when they are Expressive Arts and beginning to write some letters from Design As part of our topic, we will their name and other letters to represent their ideas. be making space craft, rockets, space stations Understanding the World and other space-related First, we will be embarking on projects. We will be using a space mission and going ‘To junk and learning how to Infinity and Beyond’ .We will connect and attach the enjoy lots of space-related different items together. We stories and activities. will also be singing some Later, we will be looking at the familiar songs to you when journey from being a baby to you visit us on coffee day. the present day.
