Your typeform JA Brand Nominations has a new response: What is your brand called? Reformation How long are your products designed to last? Products are designed for multiple wears/washes and are made with high quality construction. Please tell me about your supply chains in as much detail as possible from farm/raw materials to finished products. We make our pieces from super sustainable materials, rescued deadstock fabrics, and repurposed vintage clothing. As we grow, our goal is to push harder to create more sustainable fabric options. Over half of our garments are made with stuff like Tencel, Viscose and recycled materials, which use way less resources than conventional cotton, and are lesspolluting than oil-based fabrics to produce. About 40% of our fabrics are vintage or deadstock, which means we give a second life to fabric that may be destined for the landfill. Most of the manufacturing is done in our own factory in LA and the rest is manufactured by local vendors in downtown LA. All factories are audited for social compliance. Waste is minimized as much as possible and the scraps are donated. Clothes are packaged in 100% recycled materials! How do you ensure the people working in your supply chains are treated fairly? Please include as much detail as possible. We partner with Labor Law- a third party agency that audits all of our cut & sew vendors. The standards are in line with the California state law and International Labor Law. How do you monitor the social impact of your supply chains? Please include as much detail as possible. Ref owns and operates its own factory and the social impact of its programs is internally monitored. How do you monitor the environmental impact of your supply chains? Please include as much detail as possible. At Reformation we think about all the costs in creating fashion—not just the price tag. RefScale tracks our environmental footprint by adding up the pounds of carbon dioxide emitted and gallons of water we use, and pounds of waste we generate. Then we calculate how Reformation’s products help reduce these impacts compared with most clothes bought in the US. We share this information on every product page of our website and tell you exactly what impact each garment has on the environment. This way we all get to see the total cost of fashion so you can make empowered choices, and we can keep creating better solutions when it comes to making clothes. What policies and practices do you have in place to manage the impact of hazardous chemicals in your supply chains? Ref tries to source certified fabrics. eg. in 2016, all of the non deadstock silk used by Ref was Bluesign certified. We want to be able to monitor hazardous substances in all of of fabrics so we created an RSL specific to our fabrics and have had some success in on boarding raw material vendors. Green chemistry will be a big focus for the sustainability team in 2017. We also have a Environmentally Preferred Purchasing policy and prefer vendors and products that have less impact on the environment. What policies and strategies do you have in place to manage waste and recycling during production? The Ref factory has a fabric scraps recycling and textile donation program. A nesting algorithm is used to minimize the waste on the cutting table. Fabric scraps are recycled and rolls of unused textiles are donated. What action are you taking to reduce the environmental impact of your supply chains? Please include as much detail as possible. We source deadstock, vintage or sustainable textiles. The product is manufactured locally and packaged with 100% recycled materials. The footprint is tracked over the product lifecycle providing us the data needed to further reduce impact. We work hard to reduce footprint as much as possible and offset the rest. All of this information is shared with customers giving them the power of choice. Ref products are made with 100% renewable energy. Ref HQ is a sustainable workspace with renewable energy, toxic chemical free supplies, reusable kitchen items and composting. Read more about our sustainable practices: https://www.thereformation.com/whoweare#factoryLife Tell us about how your brand is innovative. We exist at the cross section of sustainability and design inspired by our understanding of consumer needs. We have an innate understanding for what will resonate with our customer as well as data to inform our decisions. We are constantly thinking of the future in terms of how we can make the best quality sustainable product in an ethical manner while expanding market share. It means combining all the innovation that technology provides, while also staying connected to what is real and human. Reformation exemplifies what it means to be a future focused organization. We are a future focused organization and our commitment to sustainability is less about selling social good and more about ensuring that there is a future to look forward to. We are committed to the belief that the problems facing our planet and society can be solved through innovation, common sense and education — and we help people look good while doing it. Please tell us about any goals you have to improve the social and/or environmental impact of your supply chain
and how you plan to track and achieve them. Green chemistry is a big part of the 2017 goals. We want to test for hazardous substances in our fabrics and help suppliers find safer alternatives. We track and ao, tp reduce the footprint of every unit of product. On the social side, we have multiple programs in the pipeline to take the Ref factory working conditions to the next level via combinations of skill, language and management training. What is the long term vision for your brand? We are a future focused organization and our commitment to sustainability is less about selling social good and more about ensuring that there is a future to look forward to. We are committed to the belief that the problems facing our planet and society can be solved through innovation, common sense and education — and we help people look good while doing it. The plan is to make beautiful clothes, use that success to grow and spread sustainability awareness. Use that roadmap to sustainable growth and expand into other products while spread sustainability awareness. Ultimately, we want to reach a volume where we can pioneer sustainable technologies that revolutionize consumer products and manufacturing. Anything else you'd like to add?
