Commanders Corner Dear Comrades It’s has been great over the last several months to see a lot old and new faces showing up at the post. There is a new excitement around the post and many more are coming out to volunteer around the post. I cannot say enough about Bob Bagby, he continues to step up on the building committee and finding and fixing problems that have been plaguing us forever. We have opened the kitchen back up on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. You can look at the attached calendar to see the menu. If you want to have a good time on these Friday, come on down and listen to the stories going on in the Kitchen. It’s always great entertainment to just sit back and listen to the stories. We can always use additional help so if you are looking for something to do let us know we could use the help.. Our recent rough fishing tournament was great success, there was a lot of bragging rights coming out of the Harmon clan just to be shut out by a you boy. It was still a great time for all that showed up. If you have not been out to the post in a while, come out and make a visit. It would be great to see you. Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 4th, the post will be hosting a VFW and Friends event at the Annex. This is the second one we have done and the event in July was such a good turnout we wanted to do it again. This is going to be a chance to hang out with members of the post and visit. Bring whatever meat you want to grill and a side you can share with the rest of us. The event starts at 11am until whenever and it should be a great time, so come on out and let’s grill. The lake and property is looking great this year thanks to the Grounds committee. I hope to see you there.
Dennis Schumer Commander

Rough Fishing Tournament a Huge Success
MEMBERSHIP Comrades, As we roll into the fall, you have to admit it’s been one really nice summer. There is a new energy down at the post. Members are smiling and thing are getting done. New picnic tables, horse shoe pits have been fixed up and the monument is looking great. I want to invite you all to come on by and see what we have been doing. If you know of a young veteran that served in Iraq or Afghanistan, invite them down or better yet buy them a annual membership to say thank you for their service. The stronger our organization is, the more we can get done for all veterans. As a reminder, it’s time to renew that membership and VFW Annual dues are $40. I know for many of you, times are tough but I hope you will continue to be a part of our organization. We have some great plans for the post and we want you to be a part of it.
On June 28th, the post held its Rough Fishing Tournament. The weather was great and there was fun for all. Congratulations to 12 year old Ryan Buehler for being the 2014 Champion.
Some were not as lucky!!! Ask Greg and Damon Harned
Also, remember, it’s just not the Veterans of Foreign Wars, We have the Women and Men Aux which play a very important role in Post 3777. As part of the post family we want their membership to grow too. If you know someone that can qualify to be a member of the VFW, Ladies Aux, or Men’s Aux give them an application or bring them down for a visit to the Post. Together we can build a stronger, better organization. Be proud of your Post! Pat Scroggins Senior Vice Commander Phone: 636-248-0450
Supporting the 220th National Guard Unit during their Deployment to Afghanistan With the help of our community, the City of Festus will be supporting the 220th during their deployment. There will be boxes inside Public Works (950 N. Fifth St.) and City Hall (711 W. Main St.) to hold donated items or notes of encouragement and support. As these boxes get full, these items will be sent to our soldiers. The city plans to continue this support until we get the word to send no more packages because they are coming home. Lip balm, sunscreen, candy non perishable snack size foods, gum, anything that can be read (current magazines), white socks, and baby wipes are just a few suggestions. Notes, cards and letters of encouragement are always welcome.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! 3
