Noel Park Primary School Sports Funding Report 2017-18

For schools, the greatest legacy of the London 2012 Olympics has to be the funding that every school in the country has now been receiving for a fifth year. This means: Noel Park Primary School receives a lump sum of £20,530; this sum includes a per-pupil top-up. Our school has nearly 600 children. Training Developing the training skills of our staff is an on-going process. The continued change in government requirements mean we are always looking at ideas and strategies to drive up standards. At NPPS we are fortunate to have two full time PE staff. This is complemented by additional specialist staff, that bring a wealth of skill and experience that benefits the entire school. Once a year we use a PE skills audit to find the teachers strengths and weaknesses. Once we have this information, we will look to bring in coaches to support the teachers development. External Coaches / Morning & After-school Clubs We have tried to offer the children a variety of after school sports clubs to give the children more opportunity to engage in sport. In the past year, over 300 children have attended one of our clubs. Morning Clubs We have continued to offer our children varied sports opportunity most mornings. Monday – Cricket: Tuesday – Fitness Work Out: Wednesday – Dodge ball Thursday - Hockey: Tennis These sessions are run by coaches from Fushion Lifestyle. These sessions are held once a week, over an eight week period to 60 children in Year 3. The first 6 weeks are spent covering an introduction, through to playing mini matches. After the sixth week, the coaches select 4 children (2x boys & 2x girls) to represent NPPS in the Haringey Schools Tennis Tournament.

Dance This club is run by Miss Ruiz and is structured with children learning dance routines, which are then performed for the whole school and friends & family at the end of every term. Taekwondo We have been very fortunate to acquire a coach with an extremely impressive CV, having coached the South Korea International Taekwondo Squad This club also has links to UK Martial Arts and Fitness Academy. Year 4 Football Club Year 4 boy’s football club is run by Level 3 football coach Stephen Elder, and like all our other clubs it gives the children a learning environment in a fun setting. Year 5/6 Football Club These sessions are delivered by Level 3 football coach Stephen Elder. His coaching strategies have also been very helpful in our Year 6 boy’s development. Year 2/3 Football Club These sessions are very inclusive and have allowed all children to quickly develop confidence and be able to apply the skills in small sided games. Our school has very good links with Rapaide Football Club and Broadwater FC Athletics Coaching All sessions are performed at the local athletics track New River Community Centre. These sessions are not for the faint hearted and our children have had to maintain a desire to withstand the tough training and the elements (winter weather). Athletics Club This year we have continued to run an athletic club for our year one children. This club is to encourage our children to engage in a fitness program designed to develop using athletic drills, including running, throwing and jumping games. This club also has links to Enfield & Haringey Athletics Club

Gymnastics This club is our most oversubscribed club with many children on the waiting list. This club is run by Dave Earle, Sports Coordinator. We also use Sports Leaders from year 6 to assist in the delivery of this club. These children act as learning mentors for the club members. This club also has links to Hornsey YMCA Basketball Club This club has just recently been reactivated and is proving a huge hit with the children. It is delivered by one of our external coaches Stephen Elder. Swimming Children in year 4, 5 and 6 are given swimming lessons. These sessions are held at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre. Further Opportunities In our commitment to giving children as many sporting opportunities, we have since added after school clubs in dodge Ball and basketball. Competitive Sport At Noel Park Primary School, we are fortunate to have a Senior Management Team that see and understand the need for our children to engage in competitive sport, and as such, the PE budget gives us the opportunity to send staff to support our children in many sporting competitions. In 2016/17 143 children represented Noel Park in competitive sport. Last year saw us enter children in the following competitions: football, basketball, cross country athletics, sports hall athletics, QuadKids Athletics, tennis and dodge ball. Apart from entering level 2 competitions, we have also developed partnerships with various schools around the borough and played one off matches. This has allowed us to play B teams and C teams for both boys and girls. We have continued to developed our sporting partnership with Risley Avenue Primary School, Belmont Primary School, Bounds Green Primary school and Trinity Primary Academy.

Intra Sport This year we have continued playing inter-class football competitions. This was done to primarily give the children fun and a competitive environment amongst their peers. The popularity of the competitions means we are looking to introduce dodge ball and hockey. Equipment During the past 12 months we have continued to invest in equipment that has benefitted every child at Noel Park. Equipment has ranged from:  Football kit for the school team.  Leather and plastic footballs, basketballs, plastic playground and dodge balls.  Gymnastics equipment.  Athletics - Sports Day equipment.  A variety of equipment for the EYFS.  A variety of lunchtime playground equipment. How do we measure the impact on children?  An increase in the number of children participated in an extra-curricular sporting activity.  Continued increase in teacher confidence in teaching PE following training. K  Refined teaching expertise of teachers for PE lessons allowed children’s learning outcomes to improve.  All pupils in KS1 and KS2 have the opportunity to take part in at least 3 school intraschool competitions during school time.  An increased number of children in KS2 have had more opportunities to compete against other schools through Haringey Schools Competitions Program.  Continuing to ensure a clear progression in key skills and raising the quality of PE teaching.
