We are FORTUNATE to have the support of WONDERFULLY giving students, parents, and community. Last year’s student council worked on a playground beautification project. Here are some highlights of that project:
Ethan Maier and Rudy Hagan, with adult help, wrote a grant for the Putnam County Youth Foundation. TZ was awarded $500.00 to replace the old wooden benches on our nature trail.
The Challenge is Ours… Commitment from Everyone Excellence for Everyone
Mrs. Stevens wrote two grants to Walmart in the fall and we were awarded $2,000 from Walmart to go toward our playground fund! We were awarded these grants in April.
Student Council members collected $1,542.81 in parent and community donations for the playground project. In addition, April 11th was our Movie Night at TZ. This event was a fundraiser to benefit the TZ Student Council Playground Improvement Project. Donations totaled $614.00 for the Movie Night Event!
When we add all grants, movie night, and donations together the playground fund has $4,656.81 to use for a new bike rack, soccer goals, and recess balls. Paint and other items to improve the playground were purchased with some of the money.
The Tzouanakis School Community is dedicated to providing a safe, caring, and respectful educational environment in which all students may fulfill their academic, moral, physical, and social potential.
May 17th was a work day at TZ. Student Council sponsored and organized teams of students, adults, and community volunteers to clean up sticks, rake leaves, trim bushes, paint handrails, scrape and paint the swings, paint basketball posts, build handrails for the wooden bridge, and replace the old wooden benches on the nature trail. We also used funds to purchase a new bike rack, two new soccer goals, recess balls, paint and supplies, and other items for the benefit of the playground.
This past Monday, we were able to celebrate the finished project with the TZ Picnic. The PTO provided an ice cream treat, as well. We couldn’t have completed this project without the help and support of all of the volunteers and donations. A huge thank you to Julie Stevens, TZ Teacher and Student Council Advisor, and Laurie Hardwick, parent, who helped guide the student council on this endeavor. Students and parents planning to attend Greencastle varsity home football games this season, please note: A ball toss area has been designated for student use at the northwest end of the home bleachers (by the baseball field). While students still are not allowed to throw balls within stadium (concession stand area, or behind the bleachers, etc.) they are now welcome to play in the fenced in area created for them. Please help us keep Friday Night games safe and fun for everyone by walking and carrying balls in the common concession stand area, and throwing only in the ball toss area. Go Tiger Cubs!
