The Challenge is Ours… Commitment from Everyone Excellence for Everyone
Proven Ideas Parents Can Use to Help Their Children Do Better in School Over the next several weeks, I will share tips from the Parent Institute for parents to help their children do better in school. The areas that will be addressed are: Making Time Count; Reading to Your Child; Building SelfEsteem; Discipline; Solving School Problems; Motivating Your Child; Building Responsibility; Reinforcing Learning; Homework.
Making Time Count 1.
Put specific times on your calendar each week when you will spend time with your children. During that time, focus your love and attention on your child.
2.
Use car time to talk with your children. There's no phone or television to interfere. No one can get up and leave. And kids know they really have your ear.
The Tzouanakis School Community is dedicated to providing a safe, caring, and respectful educational environment in which all students may fulfill their academic, moral, physical, and social potential.
3.
Plan to eat at least one meal together as a family each day.
4.
Look for things to do together as a family. Get everyone involved in choosing how to spend your time together.
5.
Try giving children television tickets. Each week, each child gets 20 tickets. Each ticket can be used for 30 minutes of TV time. Any tickets remaining at the end of the week can be cashed in for 25 cents each. Parents can still veto a certain program, of course.

Changes in Transportation If you need to make a change to your student’s end of the day transportation, please send a note to school with your child, or call the school office prior to 2:20. Our main transportation priority is to ensure your child gets to his/her destination safely and correctly. Thank you for your assistance!

Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe for all.
Mid-Term Reports It is hard to believe that next week marks the mid-term of the first nine week grading period. The beginning of the school year is filled with learning procedures, routines, and expectations. This is also time when teachers are getting to know the students both academically and socially with both formal and informal assessments. The mid-term report is a means of giving parents a checkup of how the student is performing. Typically, there are a handful of grades collected in each subject by the mid-term. The first midterm is different, as there are not many assignments that go into the total calculation of the mid-term grade. Parents should take the mid-term grade with care and not place much emphasis on this checkpoint. Another item we want to point out is your child has only had one complete special class rotation (art, music, PE) at this point. If they have not had the class yet this grading period they will not have a grade or if they just started the class, it may be an incomplete grade with just a few scores. Parents are able to log into Harmony to check up on student progress 24/7. There is also the option for parents to sign up in Harmony for notifications to be sent regarding student attendance, discipline, and academics. Any questions may be addressed with the classroom teacher.
