United Way of Portage County CEO & President Job Description Position Summary The CEO & President of the United Way of Portage County, OH is to be an innovative leader in mobilizing regional assets to meet the needs of the Portage County community. The position is accountable for providing leadership, strategic direction, and vision for the development and achievement of the United Way of Portage County’s mission in partnership with the Board of Trustees. The position works closely with the Board of Trustees, staff, and volunteers to shape the organization’s strategy. We are seeking an experienced professional who can lead the United Way of Portage County to new heights in providing high quality programs and services that support our mission: “United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities in Portage County to advance the common good.” Responsibilities

Drive Community Impact o Develop and work with Education, Income, and Health (EIH) Advisory Councils. o Manage and oversee the Grant Application process for Multi-Year Community Impact Grants and Emerging Needs Grants. o Build and develop capacity of the Non-Profit Sector which includes other non-profits and agencies. Grow Resource Development o Plan and manage the annual campaign with volunteers and staff, including meeting with employers with a presence in Portage County to cultivate relationships and expand donations and the potential UW volunteer base. o Identify, contact and develop all sources of funds necessary to continue the operation in Portage County. On an ongoing basis, continue to develop corporate, community and other contacts to increase funding available for delivery of services and programs. Ensure that appropriate amount of funding to run the organization is available at all times; maintain a balanced budget. o Supervise grant administration, including but not limited to ensuring regular liaison and reporting to grant funder, achievement of annual grant performance objectives through program development and fiscal management of the grant. Champion Volunteerism o Effectively and efficiently manage staff and volunteer resources to ensure operations are being executed in accordance with UW policies, budgets, goals and mission. o Maintain a clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities, develop targeted in-house volunteer opportunities, and recognize and celebrate volunteerism. Turn Outward o Actively participate in community events that promote UW’s goals and objectives and inform the general public of the achievements, goals and mission of UW. This includes but is not limited to participation in local Rotaries, chambers of commerce, and other service organizations.

Partner closely with local, county, and state elected & appointed officials in implementation and deployment of programs and services that are consistent with the United Way of Portage County’s activities. o Identify areas within Portage County where needs are underserved; develop and implement programs to ensure services are available in those areas. o Ensure the use of traditional and social media is leveraged to increase the visibility of UW throughout the Portage community. o Learn about the people and communities the UW serves, build and maintain a culture of diversity and inclusion. o Plan and execute a Year Round Marketing Plan. o Collect key donor data points and develop targeted communication channels to specific segments. Deepen Relationships with Supporters o Cultivate effective relationships with UW donors and potential donors, maximizing the relationships to the benefit of UW and the county. o Develop and execute a Year Round Engagement Platform and leverage technology to enhance donor relationships. Operations Excellence o Partner with the United Way of Greater Cleveland as a liaison in managing and supporting 211 initiatives for Portage County. Ensure the needs in Portage County are being met by the 211 services provided by the United Way of Greater Cleveland. o Recruit, train, develop and provide leadership to UW staff and volunteers. Ensure that all programs, services and grants are being implemented and managed efficiently, effectively and professionally through establishment of goals & objectives and that staff receive, understand and are held accountable in meeting goals & objectives. o Ensure a seamless donor transaction experience, maintain accurate and consistent agency payouts, and provide consistent and transparent accounting and reporting. Customer Focused Culture o Meet regularly with social service agencies (both UW partner agencies and non-partner agencies) and governmental representatives to remain current on the needs and resources available to Portage County residents. o Provide general oversight to the Community Investment process to ensure that UW guidelines are followed. This includes ensuring proper allocation of funds during the annual allocation process as well as agency program-level reporting throughout the funding cycle. o Develop strategic capacity building plans to enable future growth of mission objectives in Portage County.
Requirements
At least 5 years of progressively more responsible management experience. At least 5 years of either fundraising or sales and marketing experience. At least 5 years of prior staff management experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Dimensions
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Ability to: give presentations, deal effectively with news media, and project a positive, professional, and public presence. Ability to network and recruit support. Must be able to demonstrate an established track record in fund-raising and / or sales. High level of computer proficiency in Google Chrome / Google Docs, Microsoft Office products, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Ethical behavior and confidentiality are a must in this position. Ability to travel, work a flexible schedule (which includes nights and weekends), and respond to emergency situations. Experience working with volunteers and Boards of Trustees/Directors highly desired. Experience with grant writing highly desired. Experience with writing and reviewing press releases highly desired. Experience with asking for gifts/donations highly desired. Experience working independently and as part of a team highly desired. Experience with project management highly desired.
