Jesus asks his disciples to have total dedication to following him. As an example, he tells us that to be worthy we must love him more than we love our parents or children. He does not expect us to abandon them, just to have so much love for Jesus that it spills over to our family, allowing us to love them more deeply. But we can be so dedicated to Jesus that he comes first. That means that if we lose a family member through death or divorce, we still keep our faith in the Lord. If we see someone in our family stray from the faith, we try to bring them back through our prayers, example, and encouragement. If our spouse tries to lead us into sin, we have the courage to stand up for our faith. Jesus then gives examples of three kinds of disciples. First are the prophets. These are people who have lived the faith and are able to teach others the wisdom they have learned. They may be good counselors who advise us, teachers who inspire us, or leaders who encourage us to follow Jesus. While we may not have those qualities, Jesus promises to reward all who take their advice, learn from their teaching, or follow Jesus because of them. Second are the righteous, those whose quiet lives teach by example. Many good parents practice this type of discipleship. Children may not listen to their parents' advice, but still grow up with memories of how they lived. If we imitate the best of our parents' ways, we will receive the reward of the righteous. Finally, there are the "little ones." These, like children, follow Jesus with great joy and love. They may not be leaders or always get things right. They may be elderly, or disabled. In their weakness, they show us the Lord's power. When we respect and cherish them, we are able to see Jesus in them. And anytime we can experience Jesus through another person is a wonderful reward for a disciple. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

13th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear People of God, I am seeking new members for our Pastoral Council. The Pastoral Council serves in a consultative relationship with the Pastor. It is the role of the Pastoral Council to investigate, discern, and recommend to the Pastor suggestions involving the faith life of the parish. The Pastoral Council sets long range goals for the parish through a prayerful discernment process. Pastoral matters appropriate to the Pastoral Council include the following seven elements of parish life: Evangelization, Worship, Word, Community, Service, Stewardship, and Leadership. At this time members are chosen by the Pastor. Perspective members must be baptized, practicing Catholics, registered in the parish who embrace the teachings of Vatican II. I’m looking for parishioners who are concerned about the faith life of the whole parish, who are able to study, reflect prayerfully, work in a group setting and able to commit to a three-year term beginning in September of 2016. The Pastoral Council meets monthly (usually the 1st Tuesday of every month beginning at 6:30 pm) for two hours. If you are interested in serving on the Pastoral Council you may apply. Applications may be found on the concierge table in the Grand Hall, in the parish offices, or you may download it from our parish website. Applications are due to the Parish Office no later than 2:00PM on Monday August 7, 2017. Corpus Christi’s Book Group will meet on Monday, July 10 at 11:30 AM In Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 to discuss Karolina’s Twins by Ronald H. Balson

But you were not made for comfort, you were made for greatness”. “Comfort” puts me first. “Picking up your cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why settle for comfort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up your cross, ask Jesus for guidance on using your gifts and live the life God intended for you!

We want to offer a supportive environment to all people searching for a way to come home or to those simply considering such a journey.
