Company Program After-School Participant Code of Conduct Welcome to the 2016-2017 Company Program! To ensure a positive and safe experience for everyone involved, all participants are expected to follow the outlined policies below. ATTENDANCE JA Company Program Participants (herein known as Students) are expected to attend every weekly session. If you are unable to attend due to illness or other legitimate reason, you must phone or email the President of your company prior to the meeting’s start time. If a participant misses three meetings in a row, the President of the team (with the support and guidance of their Advisors) has the option of dismissing the participant from the company based on the circumstances. If attendance is an issue, student teams have the option of discussing disciplinary measures with the Manager of High School Programs at JA Southern Alberta. RESPECT Everyone is asked to conduct themselves as they would in a place of business in which they are employed. This conduct extends to fellow students, Advisors, meeting space (herein known as Venue), and conduct on social media. Students will:

      

support decisions made by their team in conducting its business give everyone the opportunity to speak at meetings and voice their opinions and suggestions treat volunteer Advisors with the respect of a supervisor at a place of employment understand that it is not the Advisor’s or Venue’s responsibility to provide supplies, including access to printers or computers leave the Venue as it was found. This includes removing team supplies, tidying up, and treating the property of the Venue with the same or greater respect as they would their own speak responsibly to and about other students, teams, Advisors, Venues, or JA on social media, including in closed groups and company pages. Nor will Students encourage such behaviour from others. understand that discrimination will not be tolerated. This includes discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, family status, disability, or any other definition as listed in the Canadian Human Rights Act.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS Students are expected to handle monies, bank accounts and financial obligations incurred by their JA company in a safe and responsible manner. Financial transactions must first be discussed and approved by the student executive and the advisory team before they are carried out (this would include supply orders, student employee wages & commissions, charitable donations, payouts to shareholders, etc.). PUNCTUALITY Meetings will begin on time. Executive members should arrive 15 minutes prior to the regular group meeting time to discuss that day’s agenda with their Advisors.

TRANSPORATION Students must make their own arrangements for transportation to and from weekly meetings. Due to insurance and other legal reasons Advisors are not able to provide rides or other transportation for Students. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL AND NON-PPERSCRIPTION DRUGS Consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs during JA meetings or work sessions is not acceptable. Inappropriate activity in regard to these substances will result in immediate dismissal from the program. In the instance that a participant is caught with or suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs, the following procedure will be followed:

The student will be dismissed from the program and will not be able to participate in any further activities related to the program.

SNACKS If appropriate, JA students may bring snacks for consumption during meeting breaks. Please discuss any allergies amongst the team members and advisors at the first meeting. BREAKS & RESTROOMS Everyone is asked to respect the group’s policies regarding snack breaks, restroom visits etc. REMAINING IN GOOD STANDING Students who follow the rules outlined above and actively participate in team activities and meetings, will remain in good standing with JA. Those students not considered to be in good standing will not be allowed to apply for scholarships and/or awards. Activities that could jeopardize a student’s good standing include, but are not limited to:

    

Continuously missing deadlines Attendance and/or tardiness issues A general lack of respect for the team and its members/advisors Lack of participation in the program and team activities Lack of communication with the team and charter

The Manager of High School Programs has sole discretion of determining a student’s ill standing. This will based on Advisor, team member, and charter feedback of the participant. TERMINATION OF PARTICIPATION Students will be asked to leave the Company Program if their attendance or conduct becomes problematic.
