Hi Everyone, We will be having a meeting Wed. August 3 at 7:30pm at Goodhue Corner Bar in Goodhue. We will be having our meetings at the Goodhue Corner Bar now until Oct., at that time we will be making another switch. Thanks so much to everyone who helped out with Volksfest this year. It definitely started out with a bang (stormy bangs, that is): Ray Hadler, Dawn Vikingson, Paul Huneke, Sharon Harrington, Derek Weckerling, Dale & Angel Nord, Luke, Leslie, & Lacey Luhman, Laura Lodermeier, Charlie Poncelet, Bernardo Gomez, Roger Kittleson, Larry Allhiser, Jake Gilsdorf, Steve Van Duesen, Gary & Lori Hinrichs, Mike Kehren, Brenda Hovel, Roxie Fischer, & Paula Wagner. A huge thanks to Kim Gilsdorf and Kyle Blattner for taking over this year and managing everything and to Brenda Reese and Bill Ringeisen and the Corner Bar & Grill for all the help they give us each year with the food booth (we could never have it without all their help and equipment.) Also thanks to the Lions club for letting us use their kitchen, Marty Kehren for use of his cooler trailer, and Mitch Gadient (Gadient Plumbing) for coming to our rescue and fixing a busted water pipe in the coke wagon. It was pretty awesome how everyone came together over the weekend- because of the storm Friday and lots of damage in the area, many plans changed: some of the volunteers for the booth helped cleanup from the storms and others who had not been on the list to work came out to take their place at the booth on very short notice and others stayed and helped at the booth much longer. That really showed what a great and caring community we have. Kudos to everyone who put in their time and energy helping out wherever there was a need over the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also thanks to those who helped with the parade: Ross Tipcke for driving the groomer, Trent Stemmann for riding shot gun, & Kyle Blattner and Kim Gilsdorf for following with their side-by-side to help throw freeze pop’s (which were highly appreciated by all who got one that very nice warm afternoon!) We also had a great team who helped out the Jaycees Friday and/or Saturday night. I am aware of 6 people, so if there was anyone else who helped the Jaycees from the club, please let me know so we can get paid for them. Thanks to Randy & Deb Tutewohl, Mike Kehren, Brenda Hovel, Jason Van Deusen, and to Ross Tipcke who helped out both nights. So the club will get $700 from the Jaycees for your help.
July was a very rough month for our community. A major loss to all was our dear friend Mike Kehren and then another huge windstorm. And once again it shows how great our community is by all coming together and helping each other out. I am sure Mikey is very proud of the community he spent his life in, showing us all how to live life to the fullest and being very generous with our time! For those who don’t get e-mail; for Mikey’s memorial the club gave $400 – we used Mikey’s 50/50 bucket that he used at all our activities, put a check in it and some cash and 50/50 tickets. It was given just the way Mikey would do it.(He was the biggest 50/50 and raffle ticket seller of all time!) We will be doing an ATV Road Rally on Saturday Aug. 27 in honor of Mikey Kehren. The flyers are enclosed. Please help to get them out. It is on the public roadways so it needs to be licensed drivers (not certified students) and the ATV’s will need the Goodhue County road permit (that link is on the flyer). We will be making the decisions at the meeting about the prize so that is not on the flyer. The date of the next ATV Safety Class is Sunday September 11 @ 1pm. To register your kids, please e-mail or call me @ 651-923-5182. The class is limited to 26 students. It is for kids 11-15. Anyone born after July 31, 1987 needs to have a certificate to drive on public land (even if they have a driver’s license), this is also true for Class 2 ATV’s- UTV’s. It was discussed at the June meeting that we may still have a movie night in Aug. That will be readdressed at this month’s meeting. The date that was looked at was Aug. 20. If happening it will be posted on Facebook, and to those that get email from me. The screen may have been blown away or destroyed during the June windstorm. There are still many who have not paid their 2016 membership dues yet. Most of the club dues go to memberships to one of the state associations- either MN USA or ATV AM. If the state associations disappear due to low memberships, our state trails will disappear also! So it is very important that if you ride on any trails you help support your local and state clubs. Sincerely, Paula Wagner-Secretary
