Commercial maritime facilities of the city include the port of Kochi, an International Container Transshipment Terminal, the Cochin Shipyard, offshore SPM of the Kochi Refineries, and the Kochi Marina. Hill Palace, Mattancherry Palace, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jewish Synagogue, Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Willingdon Island are among the other best tourist places in Kochi Kochi International Airport is just 20 km away from the campus. Prepaid taxis are available at the Airport around Rs. 500. There are frequent services of lowfloor A/C buses of KSRTC via CUSAT. Bus timing from the airport can be obtained from the airport website (www.cial.aero). The nearest railway station is Alwaye (10 km). Other nearby railway stations are Ernakulam Town (12 km) and Ernakulam Junction (13 km). Public transport and prepaid taxis are available from these stations.

DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED CHEMISTRY The Department of Applied Chemistry (DAC) was established with the support of UGC in 1976. The department offers Post Graduate programmes like M.Sc. (Chemistry), M.Tech. (Industrial Catalysis), M.Phil. (Chemistry) and Ph.D. in Chemistry. The research programmes are being undertaken in the following areas: Adsorption and Catalysis, Analytical Chemistry, Co-ordination Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Organic photochemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer nanocomposites and Bio-inorganic Chemistry. In the last five years, 46 students have taken their Ph.D. from the department. Many students have secured faculty positions in various Colleges / Universities in India and abroad.
