DELTA EPSILON INSTRUMENTS INC.

DELTA EPSILON PORTABLE BOREHOLE LOGGERS Precise, Portable, Rugged, Versatile The Delta Epsilon family of portable borehole loggers offers a combination of uncommon capability, ruggedness of design and ease of operation. Based on a legacy of building loggers in use around the world for more than four decades, a DEI logger is a superior working tool for the earth scientist and explorationist. The Delta Epsilon portable loggers are available in two basic configurations, either as a 300 meter (1000’) depth capacity system or 600 meter ((2000’) depth capacity system. Both are supplied with permanent shipping and storage cases. As delivered, they are complete and ready to log including DELogger log acquisition software

The use of total count gamma ray logging probes to determine Uranium resources in the ground is a long established practice. Gamma probes used for this objective must be properly calibrated to determine their efficiency and be assigned appropriate K or other calibration factors to determine an ore grade expressed as %eU308. DELogger software features the capability to automatically calculate and display e%U308 in real time from gamma logs.

Either system features an integral data acquisition and uphole power unit. A PC laptop or notebook computer serves as the operator interface and to acquire, display in real time, store and playback borehole data as a function of the supplied DELogger software. Computers are normally supplied by the purchaser, but DEI can provide a quote for an appropriate computer with DELogger software installed if desired. The uphole data acquisition system supports an extensive group of digital downhole probes that facilitate the efficient and economical exploration of drill holes. These are particularly useful in both uranium exploration and groundwater development applications as Delta Epsilon is able to offer capabilities in these areas that are not available on competing systems.

Calibration is based on the assumption that observed count rate is proportional to ore grade when ore is expressed as a weight fraction of its host rock. This proportionality is valid only if a gamma probe is properly calibrated and appropriate correction factors are applied to the observed count rate.

For Uranium exploration applications Delta Epsilon offers calibrated gamma probes for the quantitative determination of %eU308. DEI is uniquely situated to provide calibration of gamma tools by virtue of our field office located at the Grand Junction, Colorado US Department of Energy borehole calibration models.

DEI gamma tools have the unique capability to automatically correct for two major factors that otherwise introduce substantial error in ore grade assays from gamma logs. The first is deadtime and the second is for “Z-effect,” with soon to be introduced filtered gamma tools for applications requiring the assay of Uranium ores above .5%eU308.

DELTA EPSILON

With resistivity logs acknowledged as the foundation of most water, geotechnical and environmental logging, Delta Epsilon has incorporated 16” and 64” normal resistivity logs measurements in a manner that does not require an isolation bridle and can run these logs on standard lightweight .1” single conductor armored logging cable in conjunction with Gamma SPR and SP logs, comprising the GE-9409 combination gamma and electric logging tool. This is in contrast to other systems which of necessity employ an isolation bridle and heavier multiple conductor cable. This can often mean that electrical data is not obtainable from the upper part of the hole.

This is a proprietary design based on computer simulations done with the Monte Carlo code MCNP that will eliminate “Z effect” errors that are intrinsic to all other conventional gamma probes. 2.E+06

Despite the use of single conductor cable, Delta Epsilon is able to obtain valid SP logs in a pure and well-proven manner. This is accomplished by completely eliminating influences induced by the necessity of sending power downhole and multiplexing. DEI uses the cable only as a conductor to surface electrodes for this measurement.

For a comprehensive technical discussion of the importance of this topic, please request: Borehole Logging Application Note 1: Elimination of the Z-effect in Gamma Logging for Uranium from Delta Eplilon. Additionally, probes available for Delta Epsilon loggers are commonly used in groundwater exploration and development, environmental assessment, geotechnical applications and general geologic studies. A particularly capable probe for these applications is the GE-9409 combination probe for the simultaneous logging of Gamma, SPR- single point resistance, S.P.-spontaneous potential, as well as Short and Long Normal Resitivity measurements.

Delta Epsilon has formed a strategic partnership with IFG Corporation of Canada, a well-regarded global supplier of slim hole logging equipment. This arrangement will permit Delta Epsilon Loggers to run not only the range of tools of our own design but also many of those offered by IFG. Collectively the DEI/IFG alliance provides an uncommonly broad range of field proven digital borehole technologies. WINCHES: Winches often have to function in a wet, abrasive and corrosive environment. All Delta Epsilon winches are constructed of lightweight, corrosion – resistant materials. All bearings are sealed and require no lubrication. Most exposed surfaces are finished with a durable powder coat or hard anodize. 2

DELTA EPSILON INSTRUMENTS INC.

Winches for portable loggers tend to be viewed as generic devices that merely lower and raise a probe in and out of a borehole. This is only partially true, for how well they perform this deceptively complex function will in many respects determine how satisfactory a logger is to use. All Delta Epsilon winches are characterized by fine machining, smooth and precise operation, practical rugged design, and attention to significant operational details.

Delta Epsilon winches also incorporate a unique feature to prevent inadvertent back lashing or “birdnesting” of the logging cable on the winch drum, which is a common, potentially catastrophic and very unwelcome event on many competing loggers. This will occur if the winch continues to run even though tension on the cable ceases for any reason, such as downward progress of the probe stopping because of an obstruction or “bridge” in the borehole. Delta Epsilon winches will only spool off cable if there is tension on the cable. It also permits easy set-up of the logger and tripod at the borehole by one operator, which is problematic on most competing systems if the logging system is even a moderate distance from the borehole and logging tripod.

All Delta Epsilon winches incorporate a mechanical brake and an integral clutch to insure that probe descent is controlled. When logging uphole, if upward progress is stopped for any reason (loss of power or mechanical failure etc.), the probe absolutely cannot reverse direction or “run away.” It is also possible to precisely stop the probe at an exact spot in the borehole without it reversing direction or creeping backwards.

Experience: Delta Epsilon Instrument Corporation (DEI) personnel have broad knowledge and experience in the uranium logging industry. DEI president, Mr. Fred Fowler Jr. has more than thirty years experience in the design, manufacture, sale and support of instruments for uranium exploration and exploitation, both in surface and borehole applications. Prior to the founding of DEI, Fowler was President of Mount Sopris Instruments, a well-regarded global supplier of radiometric and slim-hole borehole logging instruments. Dr. Robert Wilson as scientific advisor and Principal Investigator has worked in nuclear logging for most of his 35-year professional career. He was a senior member of the team that developed the spectral logging (KUT) technique. He has contributed to the physical understanding of such measurements, and to the development of data and log analysis techniques.

During the National Uranium Resource Evaluation program, conducted at the Grand Junction, CO office of the Department of Energy, and during the waste remediation programs that followed, DEI personnel supplied many of the instruments that are still in use today and are presently responsible for the maintenance and calibration of a large number of instruments used at various DOE field operations. Dr. Wilson, while employed by Bendix Field Engineering Corp., a contractor for the DOE during the NURE program, the technology of KUT logging was significantly advanced, logging methodology was developed, and calibration methods introduced. Recent consulting work includes an evaluation of the gamma logging program at a major deposit in Mongolia. Ongoing consulting work includes the nuclear modeling of logging tools used to measure oil saturation of reservoirs through steel casing. A collaborative development has been initiated with Dr. Wilson, Delta Epsilon and IFG Corp. of Canada to develop and commercialize a uranium assay probe intended to eliminate Z-effect errors that are present in assaying grades above .5%eU308. This approach has been empirically shown to represent a superior concept and eliminate substantial intrinsic errors that occur using conventional scintillation probes.
