Summer Fun At St. Philip the Apostle School Summer Enrichment Classes Will be held the weeks of: June 19, June 26, and July 11th. No Classes the week of July 3rd. Week One - June 19-23 8:30-10:15 Incoming Kindergarten Art with Mrs. Slater and Mrs. Renn Incoming kindergarteners come and enjoy the fun becoming familiar with your new school, while creating beautiful works of art. Spend a week using different mediums of art. You will create projects that your parents will cherish forever. Cooking with Mrs. Gripp grades 1-5 Let’s get ready to use our “hands” for cooking this week. We will make some of our old favorites like pickles, salsa, meatballs, and rolled cookies, and try some new recipes to eat and take home. Come hungry and with an apron. Legos with Ms. Vera grades 1-5 Batman-ia “Heroes and Villains Drawing from the new Batman movie, we will “team up with Batman” and create Hero teams. Each day Heroes will create a different Lego world and fabricate machines to “Fight a few different people” (Villains). We will have daily contests to see if Batman is “Hard on Crime”. Along the way we will learn new techniques in how to build with Lego’s and have free time to build on our own. Each participant will receive a boxed Lego with a Villain Hero and Villain with their own vehicle “Batman Forever” Become part of the Superhero Team and save the world!! 10:30-12:15 Incoming Kindergarten Math and Language Arts with Mrs. Gripp In this fun and exciting class, incoming kindergarteners will work on number and letter recognition while they learn about farm animals. We’ll color, write and tell stories, while we make new friends. Mine City with Mr. Jonathon grades 1-5 If you had the opportunity to build a city, what would you put in it? More parks and a McDonald’s? A lake or a theme park? What would you name it? We have all drawn and built city’s “ONLINE”. How about a try at a real life 3D city? Do you think you have what it takes? Art with Mrs. Slater grades 1-5 Ever wonder what soft sculpture is? Well in this class we will create sculptures out of soft materials like fabric and fibers. The projects will be a mixture of 2D and 3D. It will be a fun new learning experience for all.
Week Two - June 26-30 8:30-10:15 Legos with Mrs. Vera grades 1-5 Batman-ia Villains and Heroes Drawing from the new “Batman” movie, we will join Joker and create anti Batman villain teams. Each day villains will create a trap filled Lego World and machines to defeat Batman and his hero team. We will try and take over the world from the heroes. We will have contests to see if the Villains win and make sure that “Batman is NOT forever”. Along the way we will learn new techniques in how to build with Legos and have free time to build on our own. Each participant will receive a boxed Lego with a Villain Hero and Villain with their own vehicle. “Down with Batman and the Super Heroes: Help us take over the world!! Ms. Yanish grades 1-5 Journey to the Rainforest: We are headed to Central and South America! There is so much to explore from the ground to canopy. Your child will discover what exciting animals call the rainforest home. They will learn about the geography, what the rainforests give us, and why it is so important for the rainforest to last for years to come. It will be a fun week of arts and crafts, food, and literature. Grim Disney Tales with Ms. Simone grades 3-5 Students will discover the root of some of the best Disney movies, exploring the stories’ origins from Grimm’s fairy tales and Hans Christian Anderson. We will read the original fairy tale, then view segments of the corresponding Disney movie. Students will practice comparing and contrasting the stories and the movies. 10:30-12:15 Creation Station with Mr. Jonathon grades 1-5 IT’S ALIVE!! Sketch, measure, build and transform everyday items into reality. From robots, props, cars, and everything in between. The options are limitless. What creation will you bring to life? Musical Theater with Mrs. Simone grades 1-5 If you love to perform, this is the class for you! We will be singing and dancing to songs from some of the best musicals like High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast, and the Sound of Music. There will be a performance for friends and family on the last day of class. Printmaking with Mrs. Renn grades 1-5 Let’s go crazy with all different techniques with printmaking. We will design and print t-shirts and posters to take home. Hot plate, carving, gelli plate, block, and so many more ways to print. We will mix different art mediums in this class. Last summer we had so much fun with this class that no one wanted to go home!
Week Three - July 10-14 8:30-10:15 1-2 Language Arts with Ms. Yanish Once upon a time, a long day ago… Let your child’s imagination flow as they join us for a week of learning with some of our favorite folk tales. We will learn about Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Johnny Appleseed , and others through writing, crafts, and so much more. 3-4 Language Arts with Ms. Perez Chocolate, Chocolate everywhere! Come and read The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling. We will have fun reading, writing, working on comprehension skills, and tasting chocolate treats. It’s going to be sweet! Art with Mrs. Slater grades 1-5 Come join the fun as we explore mixed media painting, drawing and sculpture for the creative minded. Every day you will be inspired to “art out” with your imagination.
10:30-12:15 1-2 Math with Ms. Yanish Math Under the Big Top: Join our three-ring circus and clown around as we explore all things a ringmaster has to know with math. This circus will integrate math facts, geometry, time, and money counting. We will be sure to add a little artistic flare to our week while having some traditional circus yummies. 3-4 Math with Ms. Perez “Have you heard what I’ve been told? Math Facts Boot camp is like finding gold!” Get ready for math fact fun as we go on missions to strengthen our math fact fluency in multiplication and division. Our week will be filled with math activities such as a scavenger hunt, math games, ipad games, and more! Art Scouts with Mrs. Renn grades 1-5 Who wants to join an art club? This fun filled week will make you into a full fledge member of an art club. You will earn a special badge for each themed day! Printmaking, weaving, clay, and painting will be explored each day. Get ready to have fun!!
