Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Kia Orana, Malo e Lelei, Fakaalofa Lahi atu, Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Ni Hao, Nei Ho, Selamat, Konnichiwa & greetings. Welcome back everyone. It is the final term for 2014. Like all terms this is going to be a busy one. We have our out of school summer sports competitions starting. Rippa rugby is once again being run at the Edgar Centre and the T-ball and softball competitions will be starting on Saturday. Please ensure that your children attend all games. If they are unable to attend please notify the coach as soon as possible so that replacements can be found. Welcome to Mrs Moor who joins us as a Year 7 & 8 teacher for Term 4 to replace Mrs Marshall who is about to have a baby. Mrs Moor is a familiar face to our Year 7 & 8 students having relieved in our school last term. The Carisbrook High Tech Studio was set up over the holiday break. A team of High Tech staff from Auckland and some of our school staff unpacked the many cartons of resources and set up the studio. Aaron Porter, a qualified graphic designer has been appointed as Studio Producer. Aaron, the High Tech staff from Auckland and a team of twelve of our students built 9 computers in 3 hours. A very valuable and enjoyable afternoons work. The students were very proud of having built a computer from parts. School banking is underway with Credit Union South. A reminder that the banker will be onsite on Wednesday morning to process the weeks banking. If a student banks regularly throughout the term they are rewarded with a movie pass at the end of the term. The cycle skills team are back at Carisbrook School and working with our Middle and Senior students. This time many of the students progress to riding around the community under the supervision of the cycle skills team. Whenever possible the Police will attend and join the groups on their cycling expeditions. Students will be wearing their vests when cycling on these trips. Your child / children are encouraged to bring along their own bikes from home for this course. The timetable for cycling is as follows; 16 October, 30, 13 November

Yellow Hi-Vis Vests
We consider your child's SAFETY a priority and making them visible is part of this, so every child at Carisbrook school has now been issued with a vest which has the name of their class on it plus a number specific to each child so there can be no mistaking who the vest belongs to while they are in that class. These vests have been bought by the school and have a replacement value of $10 each which you will need to pay if your child loses theirs. Please assist your child to have a specific place where they put their vest at home each day after school because we expect every child, from year 1 to 8, to wear their vests to school and home every day. This means it doesn't matter if they come by car, walk, ride or whatever they are to wear them. They need to be at school every day because if your child goes out of school, apart from going on a bus to a specific place such as Moana Pool where they'd be taking it off and it may get misplaced, they must be wearing their vest or they may not be able to go.
After School Care Parents
If you have not completed a new enrolment form for your child to attend after school care please do so as soon as possible. This is an Oscar requirement and a new form needs to be completed at the beginning of each term. Please also remember to sign your child out when you pick them up from care each day. Enrolment forms have ben sent home with your child, if you have no received one please collect one from either the school office or from Anna at the After School Care programme.
Chocolate Fundraising Sales
We have a number of outstanding chocolate boxes/money that has not yet been returned to the school. If you have taken chocolates to sell and have not returned the money and/or the unsold chocolates please do as soon as possible. Thank you.

The 10 things kids need most… Number 9
Take care of their feelings… Sometimes it’s hard for children to find the right words, or tell you when they are sad or frightened. Babies and small children can be frightened by anything new and different, when there is no real danger. A stranger, a clown, or a loud noise, can all be very scary for a toddler who is not used to them. Sometimes you might feel tempted to laugh, to tease them or tell them “not to be silly”. What they really need is for you to comfort them and give them a simple explanation. This will help them feel good about themselves, and fell OK about talking to you if they have a serious problem.
School Crest The School Crest takes pride of place in school office foyer. The Staff dream was realised recently when Bill Clarke, from Forged and Crafted in Roxburgh. sculptured a metal and steel crest using our school logo, values and vision. The Staff ran a Quiz night earlier in the year to pay for the crest which is now hung in the school administration area.
