Over the last three years the City of Delft has collaborated with nine other European cities in the project EUniverCities: Aachen and Magdeburg (Germany), Aveiro (Portugal), Ghent (Belgium), Lecce (Italy), Linköping (Sweden), Lublin (Poland), Tampere (Finland) and Varna (Bulgaria). This URBACT funded project focuses on city-university relations and aims at improving understanding and cooperation in several domains. The domains address topics as diverse as economic development, internationalization, science education for society, students in the city and joint marketing to attract talent. In each city peer reviews are adopted to assess plans and policies of the host city, followed up by exchange of best practices, mutual learning, recommendations and advice. The project started a few months after the overarching EUniverCities Network was successfully launched, early 2012. During the Open Seminar we will address three different, overarching topics that have emerged during the EUniverCities project, and we think will be relevant for the future of our cities and Europe at large:
1. Entrepreneurship as major tool for development 2. Universities of the Future: Campus development 3. Cities and Universities realizing Europe’s Grand Societal Challenges In the afternoon both a final report with the main outcomes of the project as well as a statement on university cities in Europe will be presented by Mr Verkerk, Mayor of the City of Delft. This seminar will be inspiring for practitioners of urban policy, academia and for people from the political arena from across Europe, that are in some way connected to City-University collaboration.
