We were very relieved that the weather held out yesterday afternoon for our ‘meet the teacher’ evening. Thank you to the parents and caregivers that were able to make the afternoon or evening sessions. The teachers enjoyed getting to meet more of their students parents. We can achieve so much more for our students if we work together. Our next formal opportunity for the school and home to connect to support your children in their learning will be in week eight of this term. At this meeting the focus is on goal setting for our students. These goal setting sessions will be three way; student, parents and teachers. In most cases these three way conversations will be student led but as you can imagine, this will not be the case for some of our younger students. In week eight we will also be having a Carisbrook School hangi. We will provide more information in upcoming newsletters. It has been great to see our students benefiting from the swim coaching sessions that are currently being held. We are very happy that we have almost all students participating in the swimming sessions this year. We can not emphasize enough the importance of children being able to swim and keep safe in the water. Spending Monday afternoon at Rippa Rugby was great fun. It was impressive to see so many teams and students from Carisbrook School participating in the competitions. I managed to watch several games and of those I watched I was impressed with the positive attitude displayed by our Carisbrook students. I was also impressed with the skills that many of our players displayed; passing, catching, footwork and body swerves.

Resilient Responsible Respectful

In the Carisbrook Lion’s team I was impressed with the high level of skills shown by players Kaitara McBride-Tahiri and Tevita Tu’i. Both players scored many tries for their team as well as defending well with some great rips. In the Carisbrook Cougar’s team competing in the Year 7 & 8 competition it was a very close game against the DNI team. Stand out players for this team were try scorers Louis Roche and Bonnie-Jo Burns. Both Louis and Bonnie-Jo scored several tries each, managing to cut through the opposition team. In the year 7 & 8 Carisbrook Panther’s team, I was impressed by several players. Of particular note Tyson Ross who displayed great leadership skills on the court and lead by example, scoring some tries himself as well as setting up other players to score. He was well supported by Matariki Calvert on attack and Taniya McBride-Tahiri on defence. Yesterday afternoon the first ‘Friends of Carisbrook School’ meeting for 2017 was held at school. Thank you to those ‘Friends of Carisbrook School’ members who have returned for another year of supporting our school and thank you to those new parents who are keen to join the group. We will advise you in next weeks newsletter of the timings for the next ‘FoCS’ meeting. We ask that you please try to have your children at school, ready to start class when the bell rings at 9.00am. Regards Ben Sincock Principal

Compulsory School Uniform      

The Carisbrook School uniform is compulsory. Top half of the uniform must be the EmbroidMe t-shirt, polarfleece or softshell jacket with the Carisbrook School logo. Bottom half can be either the EmbroidMe school uniform or navy blue trackpant, shorts or skort purchased from another provider. If your child wants to wear a long sleeve top under their t-shirt for extra warmth this must be plain navy blue. Parents of children who are not in correct uniform may be contacted and ask to bring in their correct uniform. A school uniform helps child feel they belong. A uniform means students don’t have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes.
