GHS Daily Announcements for June 5, 2017 Last day of school is Friday, June 9. Release time 10:55 am. If you are planning to take AP English Literature, you have one last chance to attend a meeting where you will learn about the expectations for the class and your summer reading. Mrs. Berlin is holding one more meeting after school at 2:50, on Tuesday, June 6th in room 164. If you do not attend the meeting, you will not be able to take the class. The last day of school is fast approaching. Please make sure that all your books have been turned into the Media Center and your account is up to date. If you have any questions or concerns stop down anytime and we can help. Attention all Bulldogs! Please consider signing up to donate blood on July 24th! This blood drive will be in here in the GHS parking lot from 12-7pm. Two blood buses will be here and can accommodate 4 people every 15 minutes. You need to be 16 by July 24 and you will need to bring a parental consent form to your appointment if you are 16. This drive does count toward earning your red cords for graduation AND you can earn service hours too! All this and you can SAVE A LIFE! Mrs. Peterson sent all students an email yesterday with more details and a link to sign up and make an appointment. This blood drive also helps raise funds for the GHS European Travelers! If you know someone in this group, just put their name in the "notes" section after you set up your appointment!

Mrs. Fischer and the Grandville Theatre Society are planning trips next fall to see Wicked and Les Miserables. These tickets are at a special discounted group rate, and will be cheaper than those offered to the public. Parents are welcome to attend with their students if they wish. Athletic News: The Grandville Varsity softball team traveled to Hudsonville and took on Kenowa Hills in the district semi-final on Saturday morning and beat the Knights 12-0. Nikoma Holman was dynamite in the circle allowing no hits in a perfect game and striking out 4 in the victory. The Dawgs tallied 14 hits led by Kalli Gibson who had 2 including a 2-run shot and an RBI single. Kaitlyn Orme, Ellie Muilenburg and Chloe Decrow had doubles for the Dawgs and Traci Merriman and Nikoma Holman had multi-hit games for Grandville. The championship game was a pitchers dual with Ellie Muilenburg the victor. Ellie went the distance allowing just 5 hits and an unearned run, striking out 13 along the way. Nikoma Holmen had 2 hits including a double and the big blows came from the bat of Maggie Bentley who had a double and a walk-off triple in the bottom of the 7th to give the bulldogs the 2-1 win for the district title over Hudsonville.
The Dawgs are now 28 and 7 and play at 10 am vs the Rockford Rams next Saturday in regionals at Jenison
Reminder if you are interested in playing boys basketball next year at Grandville HS, please sign-up for Grandville Basketball camp through Grandville Community Ed. This camp is for any boys interested in playing Freshman, Junior varsity or Varsity basketball next year. Camp starts next week Monday, June 5th at 5pm in the Grandville HS East Gym. Girls interested in playing basketball next year please attend a meeting on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in project room 290. The varsity coach will be introduced, if you can't make the meeting please stop by the athletic office to sign information sheet. Monday, June 5, 3:00 There will be an information meeting for anyone new or current player interested in playing boys water polo next year. ATTENTION anyone interested in playing football next year. Monday, June 5 at 5:30 is the MANDATORY Pre-Season Kickoff meeting for both parents and players. Please join us in the high school cafeteria for Dawg gear and sign-ups and after that we will move to the auditorium for a presentation and information from Coach Stiegel. You will meet the coaches and coaching staff, hear their vision for our football program, hear about player expectations and schedules, football booster information, new Dawg gear, and volunteer sign ups. You won't want to miss out!!
