GHS Daily Announcements for October 12, 2016 Financial Aid Night is being held in the GHS Auditorium this evening, October 12 at 7 PM. This event is highly recommended for all senior parents who will have a student attending college next year. There are some significant changes to the Financial Aid process this year. A local college representative will be presenting on the new changes, the FAFSA process and will answer any questions. The event should last approximately one hour. GHS Students! You are invited to participate in a school clean up Tomorrow after school from 3:00 - 3:30. Join the Green Team and spend some time outdoors picking up trash around our property. Congratulations to the Marching Band on receiving a first division rating at the MSBOA District 10 Marching Band Festival on Tuesday night in Zeeland. This is the 49th consecutive year that the band has received the highest rating possible. The Harvest Fest Used book sale is headed our way! Please bring your used books, CDs, and DVDs to your 2nd hour starting next Monday, 10/17. The winning student (must bring 100 or more books) will win a gift card to the mall and the winning class will win a party. Books may also be dropped off directly to Mrs. Fischer in room 167. Contact her to arrange a time. Seniors - Don't forget to sign up for the Senior All Night Party! If you register by October 15, the price is $100. After that, the cost goes up to $125. Bus sign-ups will be on November 16, 17, and 18. If you want sign up to be on a bus with your friends, you need to be paid and registered.
Community Open House: Grandville High School and Grandville Middle School will be open to the public on Friday, Oct. 14, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This is your opportunity to see the new construction at both buildings if you haven't yet. We're grateful for the passage of the 2013 bond and invite everyone to check out the transformation! Attention all students interested in Jazz Band: There will be an informational meeting in the Band Room on Wednesday, October 12 at 3:00. Information about auditions, which will be held on October 18 and 19, will be discussed. If you want to pick up the audition music early, it will be available starting October 6. game! Plus it’s instructed by your Varsity Hockey Coach Joel Breazeale. If you're not playing a winter sport, this might be the fun, social, sports activity for you?! The FLEXhockey program is open to both boys and girls who: 1. Want to learn about ice hockey. 2. Want to improve their skating and hockey skills. 3. Want to play games regularly. Interested 11th and 12th grade students will be able to sign up through Google Forms on their email account and must have permission from their teacher during the hour of the visit. Locations for each visit are included on the email and vary depending on the visit. Students may sign up for only 3 VISITS TOTAL for Fall. Please see your counselor if you have any questions.
News from Athletics: Grandville defeated Hudsonville in OK-Red Conference play 3-1 (32-30, 15-25, 25-13, 25-15). The two teams were able to play for a bigger reason , to support the VanderSlice Family. Thank you to all who came out, bought a tshirt, participated in the 50/50 raffle, sponsored, or donated. The JV Volleyball Team nearly plucked the Eagles wings last night, splitting the first two sets (25-21, 15-25) before falling in the third set to Hudsonville 15-13. Elle Frasier led the Dawgs with 7 kills and two blocks. Sara Orme, Lucy Baker and Hannah Olson slammed 5 ,4 and 3 kills, respectively. MacKenna Shampine, Lindsey Kamppinen, Molly Lallo and Sloane Bingle held fast on defense, contributing 4 digs each. Come out
and see the team on Thursday as they try to improve on their 2-2 conference record against the Rams of Rockford. Girls interested in playing lacrosse in the spring, plan on attending an informational meeting for all players and parents on Wednesday, October 12th at 7:00pm in project room 290. If you are unable to attend, please stop by the athletic office. To all returning and prospective Varsity Hockey Players! The Athletic Office has a signup sheet for tryouts available with Mrs. VanGessel. Monday, October 31 will be the first day of Varsity Hockey tryouts. Tryouts will open to all Monday and Tuesday of that week and by invitation only on Wednesday, November 2. Tryouts are at Georgetown Arena from 3:30-5pm. Please bring athletic clothes and shoes as there will be physical testing per the program’s established physical fitness standards. In order to be eligible for tryouts you must have a valid sports physical dated after April 15, 2016.
