Vimy Trip 2017!
31 SCA students traveled to Europe from April 7-14. The students visited Belgium, France, and England.The highlight of the trip was attending the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. They also visited other important World War One memorials and cemeteries, as well as, spending time in London and Paris. Thank you Mr. Renouf! On Saturday, April 1st, the SCA Gender Sexuality Alliance traveled to Dalhousie to attend the provincial GSA Conference, along with students from CEC's GSA. Community '17 was a great opportunity for us to meet other students and staff and explore a variety of workshops supporting LGBTQ youth and their allies.

Students will determine the winner of the award by reading, and voting, for their favourite book from March 21st to June 2nd. TRCA is working toward the goal of at least 1,000 student votes this year! Students will be able to vote electronically online or in the library by paper ballot. Students are encouraged to read one or more of the Top 10 books and to discuss them in school and online at http://ccrsbteenchoice.wordpress.com. In addition to in-person discussions, and the TRCA blog, CCRSB is introducing the hashtag #TRCA2017 this year to further build the conversation around literature. Students are encouraged to use the hashtag when voicing their thoughts and opinions of these books online. The 2017 CCRSB Teen Reader’s Choice Award winning book will be announced on June 13th with a series of in-school awards ceremonies. Students can track the progress of their favourite books on the Teen Reader’s Choice Award blog and through the #TRCA2017 hashtag.
Girls Thrive After the Bell - RECC Come on out and enjoy the fun!!! At our last session our girls did Zumba and in the next 5 weeks we will be rock climbing, yoga, swimming and pound classes. Rotary Club of Truro Youth Leadership Conference is currently accepting applications. Students between the ages of 16-18 who possess or want to develop Leadership qualities are encouraged to see Mrs. MacLeod for an application. Nova Scotia Virtual School (http://nsvs.ednet.ns.ca ) and Correspondence Study Program (http://csp.ednet.ns.ca ) schedules for 2017/2018 are now available. These can be a great options for students who are unable to fit all the courses they want/need into their schedule. Parents and students are encouraged to see Mrs. MacLeod for more information. The Huggins High School Science Seminar offers the students a unique opportunity to learn from –and interact with –real scientists who work on interesting projects on an everyday basis. Prom Parade: All vehicles must be lined up at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex by 6:00pm. Prom March: Approximately 6:30pm following the parade. Prom Dance: 7:30pm- 10:00pm Safe Grad plans are well underway. This year the Safe Grad will involve dinner at Boston Pizza following the graduation ceremony. After, students will return to SCA for a variety of fun activities ending at approximately 5:00am. Additional information will be sent out closer to the end of May. The Safe Grad committee is looking for prizes to send grads home with. In particular, gift cards or items for dorm rooms would be great. If you or your business is able to donate, please stop by the main office for an official letter or call to make arrangements. Another clothing order has been placed.
