Mold-Masters SportsPlex earns prestigious Silver LEED certification HALTON HILLS, ON – Mold-Masters SportsPlex has been awarded LEED Silver certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is presented to qualifying buildings by the Canada Green Building Council to encourage and facilitate the development of more sustainable buildings. “Through the Mayor’s Community Energy Plan, our Green Building Standards and our Office of Sustainability, the Town has made significant commitments to environmental best practices. The LEED certification of Mold-Masters is another tangible example of this commitment and complements our other LEED certified facilities,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. The facility was assessed in seven energy and environmental categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation & Design Process and Regional Priority Credits. “We are very excited to achieve this recognition for the Mold-Masters SportsPlex Arena Expansion Project,” added Stephen Hamilton, the Manager of Recreation Facilities. The facility is not only a wonderful recreation facility for the community, but also boasts exceptional energy efficiency and innovation in its design. The design team had worked very hard on delivering a facility that is both functional for its purpose and supports sustainable practices.” The Mold-Masters SportsPlex (MMSP) had been a twin pad arena facility that expanded with the addition of two new ice pads in September 2013. The approximately 82,000 foot expansion has been enthusiastically received by the community as a vital addition to the ice and community centre facilities required in the Town. The new addition is fully accessible, energy efficient and incorporates numerous innovative and leading design features. It has incorporated equipment that optimizes the energy performance of the building and enhances the refrigeration management. The design has maximized the use of natural light, incorporated numerous sustainable materials and processes in its construction, enhances water efficiency and has employed re-used heat throughout the facility. Additionally the facility has incorporated a number of leading edge technologies within its design. In partnership with Halton Hills Hydro the facility is also home to a number of charging stations for electric vehicles. Further to this partnering with Halton Hills Hydro, and subsequent to the process of submitting the design to the Canada Green Building
