MEDIA RELEASE June 14, 2016
Mayor applauds expanded GO service to Halton Hills HALTON HILLS, ON – Mayor Rick Bonnette said the province’s plan to provide expanded GO train service to both Georgetown and Acton is welcome news and will provide great benefits to our residents. “With the support of Town Council, I have been pushing for expanded GO train service for years, so this is very welcome news,” said Mayor Bonnette. “Local ridership on the GO line by our residents is very strong and the expanded service will meet a longstanding community need.” GO train service out of Georgetown and Acton is currently limited to early morning and late afternoon/early evening; the expanded service will provide greater options. Under the expansion announced by Premier Kathleen Wynne today, in the short term, starting in September, GO will extend two morning and two afternoon peak train trips that currently run between Georgetown and Union Station to also serve Acton, Kitchener and Guelph. The long-term plan is to have all-day GO train service, serving all of the communities along the Kitchener rail corridor, including Acton and Georgetown, by 2024. “Along with providing greater service, the expanded service also aligns with the goals we have established as a community around sustainability. This is great news and we thank the province for addressing this issue,” added Mayor Bonnette.
