MEDIA RELEASE March 22, 2017 Halton Hills Assists in Commercial Renovation in Acton HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills through its Community Improvement Plan (CIP) provided funding to property owner Sam Boumitry to undertake major façade improvements at 14-20 Main St. S. in Acton. Mr. Boumitry purchased the building approximately 18 months ago and completely renovated the front façade including new stucco accents, lighting and energy efficient windows. Mayor Bonnette in presenting the cheque to Mr. Boumitry stated, “This is an example of the Town partnering with property owners to improve the streetscape and in this case making the building more energy efficient. These are the types of improvements that the CIP is designed for.” The Town approved the CIP in 2010 and commenced funding projects in 2014 with an annual budget of $75,000.00. The CIP consists of 28 programs but has been limited to façade improvement and, building rehabilitation in downtown Acton and the Guelph Street Corridor in Georgetown. In 2016, another program was added relating to landscaping, grading and fencing in the Acton and Georgetown Industrial Parks. While the amount of financial support varies, the façade and building rehabilitation programs provide for a 50% grant to a maximum of $12,500.00 and projects may be eligible for more than one grant. Applications are accepted year round. A simple process and an approval time of 15 days (more if a building permit is required) makes the program easy for applicants to access. The CIP benefits the community by improving the quality of the buildings and increasing the value of the properties which results in higher property taxes, this provides a return on the Town’s initial investment. “The process of making the application was very straight forward. Town staff provided all the details I needed and even met with me after business hours to review the application. I am very pleased with the process and how great the building looks,” said Mr. Boumitry.
