Town-Assisted Renovation Helps Local Wellness Business Shine HALTON HILLS, ON – Healthspan Wellness has a newly renovated location at 22 Guelph Street in Georgetown. The clinic can offer its clients quality service in a prime location in Downtown Georgetown. The building, a former dental office, was purchased by Julia and Cory Fountain in the spring of 2016 and renovations began to bring the building up to modern standards. Every area of the structure needed work both on the interior and exterior: the end result is impressive. Through the Town’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP), funding was provided for the project. Two programs were available for the construction; the first was the façade improvement program that provided 50% of the exterior costs to a maximum of $10,000.00. The second, a residential rehabilitation grant, provided funding to improve the vacant apartment to meet fire and building codes to allow occupancy; the grant is available in the amount of $15.00 per sq. ft. to a maximum of $15,000.00. “This CIP project is a perfect example of the effectiveness of the program. An empty building has been transformed into an efficient, modern office that provides valuable services to the community. The investment by the owner and the Town results in a building that has increased in value; in the long term it will result in increased property taxes yielding a return on our investment,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. The CIP is a Halton Hills initiative that provides matching funding for projects located in Downtown Acton and Georgetown and the Guelph Street Corridor. In addition, another program was added earlier in 2016 which provides funding for landscaping and fencing work in the Acton and Georgetown Industrial Parks. The program has an annual budget of $65,000.00; applications are welcome at any time but are subject to funding availability. "Over the last year it's been a labour of love with some challenges in restoring this original Georgetown homestead to 21st century commercial building standards. We employed a great team of local professionals and the Community Improvement Program helped us to undertake these renovations.
