Agricultural Mechanics

Health Sciences

Agriculture Power and Machinery is an instructional program designed to provide basic skills for students to become employed in the industry of agricultural power mechanics or to continue their education in postsecondary institutions. Skills taught in the program relate to selection, operation, service, maintenance, and repair of a variety of agricultural power units and agricultural machinery and equipment. The program includes instruction in gasoline and diesel engines, welding, hydraulics, and other power systems. This program makes use of the FFA Leadership, Professional Development Activities, and Supervised Agricultural Experience Program as integral learning laboratories.

Health Sciences is a pathway of courses for students in the Health Sciences career cluster. The Health Sciences pathway includes classroom and hands-on experiences that will provide students with an overview of the healthcare field as outlined in the States’ Career Clusters Health Science Cluster and the National Consortium on Health Science and Technology Education as well as begin to prepare students for careers in occupations predicted to have a high number of available jobs in the next 10 years including registered nurses, nurse aides, practical nurses, and home health aides.

Early Childhood Education In Early Childhood Education, an emphasis is placed on students’ personal and profession- al preparation for careers or education in the field, history and trends of early childhood education, children’s health and safety, child development, and child guidance and observation.Emphasis is also placed on career and professional development, characteristics of high quality early childhood centers, management and
 administration in quality child care programs, and the learning environment. Membership is encouraged in the student organization, Skills USA, which provides activities for leadership and the application of competencies through participating in competitive events. Skills developed through the course of study assist students in meeting requirements for the CDA (Child Development Associate credential). Average Salary: $23,836

Culinary Arts The Culinary Arts includes classroom and hands-on experiences that will prepare students for employment or continuing education in the food service industry. This program was written to incorporate the National Restaurant Associations (NRA) ProStart learning objectives. Any student who successfully completes this program and the mentoring requirements will be eligible to take the National ProStart Certificate of Achievement Exam, which is a certification recognized in the foodservice industry nationwide. Information Technology The Information Technology program is designed to provide the basic foundation, skills, and knowledge for computer networking, applications, and support, along with an introduction to programming. Students will develop the skills necessary to prepare for certification exams and will learn how to develop, support, and integrate computing systems. They will acquire network planning and management
 skills and the ability to provide technical support. The program will provide hands-on experience in computer systems support and skill in network setup and maintenance .Industry standards referenced are from the Skill Standards for Information Technology published by the National Workforce Center for Emerging. Technologies. Program competencies are designed to prepare students for A+ certification. Average Salary: $77,910

Horticulture The secondary pathway in Horticulture prepares individuals for entry-level employment or continuing education in a wide variety of fields in the horticulture industry. Students enrolled in the program participate in a variety of instructional activities including lectures, discussions, laboratory experiences at the school, and work-based learning activities in the field such as field trips and shadowing experiences. Students also receive supplementary instruction and reinforcement of learning through activities in youth organizations. Top- ics covered in the 2-year program include plant structure and growth; plant propagation; pest management; floristry; greenhouse crops and management; olericulture; plantscaping; landscape design, installation, and management; and turf grass management. Student competencies and suggested objectives in the curriculum framework have been correlated to the knowledge and skill statements listed in Career Cluster Resources for Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, as published by the National Association of State Directors of Career and Technical Education.
