3/31: Varsity baseball opened their season with a 8-6 win over Columbus. Trailing 4-3, KML busted out with a 5 run 6th inning, which included 4 straight hits by Sam Roeseler, Matt Voigt, Sam Zarling, and Danny Hennen. Joey Behm then followed with a successful suicide squeeze bunt. Josh Maas complete the inning with a RBI double. Sam Roeseler started on the mound and went 6 innings to earn the win, giving up only 1 earned run. Joey Behm pitched the 7th inning in relief and struck-out the side. Sam Roeseler also led KML at the plate, going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Matt Voigt added 2 hits for the Chargers. Coach Washburn commented, “Being a young team, it was good to see the team stay with it when we got down. We will go through some growing pains, but I feel this is a talented group who will keep improving.” Noah Steinbrenner drove in the go-ahead run to give JV the lead in the 6th inning, as KML hung on to beat Columbus 6-3 last Tuesday. Corey Hill reached base 3 times. He singled in the 5th inning and tripled in the 7th inning. Jared Miller was in control on the mound. Columbus managed just 2 hits off of Miller, who allowed 1 earned run, walked 1 and struck-out 6 during his four innings of work. 4/1: Varsity lost 4-14 to Slinger last Wednesday. KML jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning, but the bats turned cold and the defense committed 6 errors after that. AJ Guhl started on the mound for KML and took the loss. Corey Hill finished the game in relief. AJ Guhl and Sam Zarling led KML at the plate with 2 hits each. Said Coach Washburn, “AJ pitched much better than the score reflected. He was ahead in the count and had a lot of first pitch strikes. Defensively, we have a long way to go.” JV surrendered a sixth inning lead to Slinger in a 1-2 defeat. Caleb Gustafson brought the heat against the Owls during his outing. He gave up just 3 hits, allowed no earned runs, walked 1 and struck out 3. JV's lone run of the ballgame came in the 4th inning. 4/4: In game 1 of their double header, Varsity narrowly lost to Lake Country Lutheran, 16-17. Corey Hill started and pitched into the 5th inning, with KML leading the game 13-3. He then got a ball lined off his leg and had to come out of the game. Lake Country then rallied in the last 3 innings to edge KML by 1 run. KML pounded out 16 runs on 16 hits at the plate. Matt Voigt and Jack Murphy led KML with 3 hits each. AJ Guhl, Danny Hennen, Joey Behm, and Corey Liesener each added 2 hits. KML dropped Game 2 as well, 10-13. Joey Behm and Josh Maas each pitched 3 innings for KML, with Jed Lyneis pitching the last one. Corey Liesener led KML with 3 hits at the plate and had 3 RBI’s. “We could have won both games, but definitely should not have lost both. Basic base running mistakes cost us in the second game, and we just need to play better baseball overall. There were plenty of good things that we did. So, we need to clean up our mistakes now as conference games begin.” -Coach Washburn In game 1, JV won the offensive battle 20-10 in 5 innings over Lake Country Lutheran. The game was back-and-forth heading into the third, with five lead changes, but KML took the lead in the 3rd inning and held on for the victory. Kaleb Baker had 2 hits, Josh Enevold with 4 RBI’s. In game 2, JV stayed on top until the final out, after taking the lead in the 1st. KML survived Lake Country’s surge in the 4th inning for the 12-8 win. Andrew Mantz had 3 hits, Kaleb Baker, Luke Depies each had 2 RBI’s.

4/7: In their conference opener, Varsity lost a close one to Laconia, 2-3. Sam Roeseler pitched well in a complete game effort for KML. KML only had 4 hits on the day. Corey

Liesener had the only extra base hit for KML, with a leadoff double in the 3rd inning which led to a run. Jack Murphy had a RBI single in the 4th inning which tied the game. Unfortunately, an error on the bottom of the 7th inning led to an unearned run which gave Laconia the walkoff win. Coach Washburn commented, “We definitely looked like a better team in this game. We were facing one of the better pitchers in conference, so we needed to manufacture a few runs. Unfortunately, we had 3 bad base running mistakes that cost us. Even though we haven’t won in our last few games, I like the progress I’m seeing at a few spots. They are working hard to get this right and I think we are close to doing that.” The JV fell short to Laconia, 9-13. Hunter Engelman had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the 1st inning, doubled in the 2nd inning, and tripled in the 6th. Caleb Gustafson took the loss for the Chargers on the mound. He allowed 6 runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked 1 and struck out none.

plate. Maddie Ott went 3 for 3, scoring 3 times as well. Lauren Weyker, Marisa Riemer, and Shannon Cobian all hit doubles. The Chargers pick up their first win 9-4 over Springs. JV had a successful opening game with a 33-5 win over St. Mary Springs. In the final inning, KML had 15 hits, which resulted in 20 runs scored. The team was lead by Hannah Kuehl's 4 singles, as well as Anna Weyker's 2 singles and triple
