SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT X. Report of the Superintendent A. Agricultural Program. The construction of the barn and greenhouse continues. Both Erwin Reynolds and Eric Dean continue to do extraordinary work leading these efforts with Robin Pease and the Franklin County Technical School carpentry and electrical programs in support. I am extremely grateful to both Erwin and Eric for their commitment to help us complete this important work for our students. During my last tour of the site, I saw that two side walls of the barn have been completed as well as some internal electrical work. My understanding is that the Tech students will soon turn their attention to the south side of the roof. I believe that we all understand that it is difficult to keep to a schedule when relying largely on volunteer labor. I also believe that we can all be heartened by the very likely prospect that both the barn and greenhouse will be completed before the end of the school year. From a financial standpoint, our latest grant balance is $26,945. As part of our school improvement effort to address Hawlemont’s Level 3 status, I have continued two key initiatives. One, I have been working more closely with Principal Yagodzinski on a weekly basis. Two, I have focused Director of Curriculum and Assessment, Jennifer Lagoy, toward supporting the Hawlemont teachers. Additionally, I am pleased to report that the classrooms have been re-settled to locations that should remain consistent for the foreseeable future. Please expect a more detailed report from our Business Administrator Mike Kociela, but I do wish to report that we are back on-budget for this fiscal year. The hiring of a 4th grade teacher created a deficit of $44,000. I directed Principal Yagodzinski to meet with Mike Kociela in order to comb through the budget line-by-line looking for reductions
that we could sustain without compromising the quality of education for our students. I am very pleased that Travis and Mike were able to identify such reductions in order to bring us back on-budget without reducing staff or essential programming. The chair will report further details during her report, but please be informed that the Hawlemont Budget Subcommittee will have met on November 13th to review the FY15 budget and to discuss the FY16 budget. I am hoping that this meeting will result in a recommendation to School Committee regarding parameters for the FY16 budget proposal. On the 13th, we will discuss overall budget, town assessment, revolving accounts, E&D, and other budget details. Superintendent performance standards: Standard II: Management and Operations E. In addition to a description of the award criteria, please find attached a summary of Allison’s many accomplishments. She is a resident of Colrain and is the daughter of Mr. Clifford Lull and Ms. Eileen Sauvageau. We are very proud of Allison! I interviewed four other highly accomplished students during this student recognition process.
