Timpview World Languages Dear Centennial Students and Parents! The Timpview World Language Department is excited to welcome you to Timpview next year. We have great language classes at Timpview, and a language class is one of the most helpful classes in making the academic and social transition from middle school to high school. The World Language Department strongly encourages you to start a language in 9th grade. When you start in 9th grade, you give yourself the option of taking a language all four years of high school. This is one of the best ways for you to prepare for college and scholarships as well as a future career. In the new global economy where the world is metaphorically flat, the ability to communicate in another language is becoming increasingly more valuable. Students who learn another language cultivate flexible thinking, improve their social skills, increase their cultural awareness, and develop a highly marketable skill. Timpview offers the following languages: ASL Anna Allred & Jaime Ribera
Chinese
French
Julian Li
German
Nathalie LeBras
Stephen Van Orden
Japanese
Spanish
Shauna Palmer
Carl Gutke & Terry Szink
At Timpview, students progress through our course sequence according to proficiency level and not according to seat time. Students progress from class to class when they are ready based on their demonstrated proficiency. Although the World Language Department offers only three classes in each language, it is still the intent of this course sequence that students take a language all four years of high school. Students will either enroll twice in the Pre-AP class (Honors for Japanese) or twice in the AP class (Pre-AP for Japanese). Students take the AP Test when they have reached Intermediate Mid or above. Any student who passes the AP test can participate in the DLI Bridge Program the following year and take a 3000 level language course that is co-taught by a Timpview teacher and a UVU faculty member.

Make it a priority to sign up for a language class in 9th grade. Your language class will help you make the transition from Centennial to Timpview. You will have fun and have a positive academic and social experience.
Timpview World Languages Dear Centennial Students and Parents! We are very excited that our DLI students will join us at Timpview next year. This year we will have the French and Chinese DLI students. Next year, they will be joined by the Spanish DLI students. At Timpview, the DLI students will take DLI Honors 5 in 9th grade. At the end of 9th grade, they will take the AP test. Those students who pass the AP test will continue on with the Bridge Program, where they will take 3000-level college courses that are co-taught by UVU faculty and Timpview faculty. Those courses will focus on cultural and literature topics and place the students in a position to get a university minor in a language with only two more courses beyond high school. The DLI students who do not pass the AP test in 9th grade will take the AP class in 10th grade and then move on to the Bridge Program after that. The Bridge Program is available to all students who have passed the AP test regardless of whether they have been in DLI or not. Our DLI students have a tremendous background in language learning. They also have developed the skills of a language learner and have first-hand experience with the value of learning another language. This makes them perfect candidates to take advantage of the other languages offered at Timpview and become tri-lingual. Part of the State DLI model has always been to have some/many of our DLI students take a third language when they get to high school. Timpview offers the following languages: ASL Anna Allred & Jaime Ribera
Chinese Julian Li
French Nathalie LeBras
German Stephen Van Orden
Japanese Shauna Palmer
Spanish Carl Gutke & Terry Szink

The Timpview World Language Department welcomes our DLI students and is excited to help them continue to progress as language learners. We hope that many of you will choose to become tri-lingual during your time at Timpview.
