T.I.M.E. Program Makes Exercise Accessible HALTON HILLS, ON - Exercise is an essential part of a balanced healthy lifestyle. For individuals that are vulnerable -- at risk of deconditioning and entering a downward cycle of decreasing function, health status and quality life, the T.I.M.E. program may be the solution. T.I.M.E., which stands for Together In Movement and Exercise is a program tailored to people who have balance and mobility problems resulting from conditions such as stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, or weakness after a hospital stay. The program was developed by Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and the University Health Network in 2007, and has since expanded into other municipalities. The program is specifically designed to improve strength, coordination, endurance, balance and agility through tailored exercises that focus on aerobic exercise, resistance and neuromuscular training and flexibility. Certified fitness instructors, trained through the West GTA Stroke Network, provide individualized attention and tailored programs, with the help of dedicated volunteers. “You never know what is going to happen in life,” said Mayor Bonnette. “You can be the healthiest person one day and suffer a trauma the next – that’s why the T.I.M.E. program is so important.” Participants must be able to walk 10 metres with or without a walking aid, and provide proof of clearance by a physician. The program will run from 9:15-10:45 am on Mondays and Thursdays at the Hillsview Active Living Centre in Georgetown, located at 318 Guelph Street. An optional 30 minute social period is available after each class. The next 9-week session begins Thursday, October 12 offered at $56.50. Participants are quick to shout the program’s praises: “The T.I.M.E. program is by far the best thing I have ever done over the last near half century to enhance my physical, emotional and personal wellbeing. I find this unique program empowering, selfenhancing and perhaps best of all, a lot of fun!”
