TALKING THREADS MONMOUTH CHAPTER Founded June 4, 1975 Metropolitan Region Embroiderers’ Guild of America

Janice Meyers, President

PRESIDENT’S GAVEL Janice Meyers, President Hi Everyone, Our board has been busy developing exciting classes that are being offered this coming year. If you’re interested in crewel you can attend our Sunday meetings. Both our day and evening meetings have scheduled several canvas projects as well as finishing classes and a beading class. Our Workshop VPs have coordinated a mystery design, Stitched to Death. Take advantage of these educational offerings. And if there’s a technique, design and/or a teacher that you would like our chapter to offer in an upcoming program please tell us. Happy Stitching!

Janice A Sad Farewell to BJ Carola Pat Arpin

I have lost a very dear friend and EGA has lost a very talented and dedicated stitcher. BJ brought me to my first EGA meeting and opened up a whole new world of fellow stitchers and what would become a network of wonderful friends. I will be forever grateful to her. BJ gave generously of her time and energy. She served on our board in many positions, including president. She led the evening group for years and opened her embroidery-filled home for our annual holiday parties. She will be missed. When I think of BJ now, I picture her recruiting stitchers to join her new embroidery group – a heavenly chapter of EGA?

CHAPTER OPPORTUNITY BASKET AT METROPOLITAN REGION SEMINAR I am now taking contributions for our chapter’s basket at the 2017 Region Seminar in April. For our new members, each chapter in the region brings a basket to Seminar. It is a fundraiser for the chapters as all proceeds from our basket come to us directly. I am asking for monetary donations from our members so I can purchase items for our basket. Any amount will be appreciated. Tickets for chances to all baskets will be available at a later time. Thanking you in advance. Ellen Saines

STITCH FEST Our Stitch Fest attendees had a fun weekend in Voorhees. Stitch Fest 2017 is already being planned. Registration information will be announced in the April newsletter.

SUMMER SOCIAL Members attending our Summer Social had a wonderful time enjoying a light lunch, participating in the two auctions and winning door prizes.

LET’S STITCH DAY   

Are you finding it difficult to fit in some stitching time? Do you have a design already kitted that hasn’t been started? Do you need a little push to finish a work in progress? Let’s Stitch Day is a day that you can devote to sitting and stitching with your MCEGA friends. Join us on Saturday, February 4 and/or Saturday, March 4, at the Colts Neck Library, large meeting room, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Come for the day, come for the morning or come for the afternoon. All MCEGA members are welcome. There is no registration fee but we do need you to RSVP to Janice Meyers so that we will know how many tables to set-up. In addition to your stitching, bring your lunch or even a snack to share with others. We will also need some help with setting up the tables so just let Janice know when you RSVP.

STASH SALE We are changing the procedure of our stash sales. If a member would like to donate items, please contact me and I will arrange a meeting for you to bring your items. At the end of the meeting you will need to take any remaining items home with you. We can arrange for you to bring them to another meeting of the chapter. Please contact Ellen Saines to set a date or with questions. Thank you in advance.

If you forget your name tag, please remember to feed the kitty 50¢. New members are reminded to make their name tags. If you need help, please ask!

OUTREACH Bea Bell We will continue our current projects at this time. As a reminder, knitted knockers, Blankie Depot, toys for Operation Christmas Child, and any knitted items for the homeless will be appreciated. The toys must be handed in by the October 20 meeting and should fit into a shoebox. A donation will be given to the Colts Neck Community Church to help defray the cost of shipping the toys for the children at Christmas. I received a thank you for the 120 personal care items that were given to a charity in the Greater Newark area, and it was indicated that the need is ongoing and any amount we give is greatly needed and appreciated; knitted items that I receive will be given to them as well and will be given to those in need at the soup kitchens as the colder weather advances. As the holidays approach, know that each of you, in whatever way, has made the life on someone a little easier and possibly has put a smile on the face of someone in need.
