Walking Pilgrimage to Midland—August 5-12
As a pilgrim, St. Ignatius of Loyola experienced the beauty and mystery of God within all things, and understood that God dwells in all creatures and labours for us within all Creation. Making a pilgrimage can be an unforgettable journey. Come and join our walking pilgrimage to Midland and experience the fun, spiritual nourishment, exercise, beautiful scenic views, good food and fellowship. For more information, to register or to find out how you can help, see our website or contact 519-824-1250 ext. 266;
[email protected] or ignatiusguelph.ca (see under Programs). An Information Session for this pilgrimage will be held on June 14 at 7:00 pm Loyola House at Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph. (Ignatius Jesuit Centre, 5420 Highway 6 North, Guelph) As part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Confederation, all the Bishops of Canada will consecrate Canada to the Blessed Virgin Mary this year. Beginning with the early Jesuit missionaries who consecrated their missions to Mary Immaculate, a number of Canadian dioceses, eparchies, parishes, schools, cities and buildings have been named in her honour. The first time the country as a whole was consecrated to the Blessed Mother took place in 1947 during the National Marian Congress which was held in Ottawa. — In consecrating our country to God, or even ourselves and our families, we are but imitating how Christ chose to be united to us and our humanity.
St. John’s Parish Mission Statement We believe deeply that Jesus Christ is in our midst, in ourselves and in each other. In our faith journey we will be the heart, hands, feet and voice of Jesus Christ, reaching out to all.

Confessions Baptisms
The Ascension of the Lord Forty days after the Resurrection — according to the Book of the Acts of the Apostles — Jesus ascended into Heaven, that is he returned to the Father, by whom he had been sent into the world. In many countries this mystery is celebrated not on Thursday but today, the following Sunday. The Ascension of the Lord marks the fulfillment of salvation that started with the Incarnation. After he had instructed his disciples for the last time, Jesus was taken up into Heaven. He, however, “was not separated from our condition”; indeed, in his humanity, he took man with him into the intimacy of the Father and thus revealed the final destination of our earthly pilgrimage. As he descended from Heaven for us, and for us suffered and died on the Cross, so for us he rose and ascended to God, who, therefore, is no longer far away… The Ascension tells us that in Christ our humanity is brought to the heights of God; thus, every time we pray, earth is united to Heaven. And like incense, burning, its scent is carried on high, hence, when we raise our prayer to the Lord with confidence in Christ, it travels across Heaven and reaches God himself and is heard and answered by Him. In the well-known work by St John of the Cross, The Ascent of Mount Carmel, we read that “in order to obtain the fulfilment of the petitions which we have in our hearts, there is no better way than to direct the energy of our prayer to the thing that most pleases God. For then not only will He give that which we ask of Him, which is salvation, but also that which He sees to be fitting and good for us, although we pray not for it”. Let us beseech the Virgin Mary, that she may help us to contemplate the heavenly goods, which the Lord promises us, and to become ever more credible witnesses of his Resurrection, of true Life. Pope Benedict XVI, May 20, 2012
