Nga mihi nui ki a koutou, Meri Kirihimete
Another busy term has flown by. We wish you all the best for a happy and safe holiday season. We are so fortunate to live in this special place! Our school roll is growing and we will have to use the library as a classroom next year. We are only accepting students from our school zone to try and limit class numbers. This newsletter has been mainly written by Room 1, Y5 pupils; Kaya Avni, Edith Lofving, Obe Chaffey and Stevii Harrison which has been a lot of fun! Nga mihi nui, Nolian Andrew, Tumuaki.
Year 6 Surfing Every Friday morning, Year 6 students go to Northern Makorori to surf. Koka Storm, (and a few other teachers) are always there to supervise and help the students with their surfing. All the Year 6 students really enjoy having a fun and refreshing start to the morning.

The Craft Fair This term we have had our annual Craft Fair. Despite the horrible weather, the Craft Fair was a huge success, raising over $11,000 for the school. Some of this money has gone toward repairs for the playground. Each class have made their own craft items to sell, and everyone had a wonderful time. A bIg thanks to all the parents who helped with the stalls, and we hope next year's craft fair will be as great as this one.
Our school was fortunate to be chosen to host the Lab in a Box. We learned about different types of seaweeds and the layers of a shell. We all enjoyed it. We learnt about which animals and shells can be found at different beaches. We were challenged to put salty water in order, from least saltiest to most saltiest. The teachers were real scientists from Wellington University.
Farewell Year 6s Sadly, all the year 6s will be leaving to go to intermediate next year. We have had a lovely time having them at Wainui Beach School, and wish them luck for their next school.
Enviro Schools This term, we have had a new garden built. We have planted edible flowers and many students put in huge efforts to fill it with soil.
Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.
WAINUI BEACH SCHOOL 2017 • TERM 4• COMMUNITY • ROLL: 261 New Teachers This term we have been introduced to two new teachers, Matua Fergus Knight and Koka Ngaire Rhodes. We are looking forward to have them at our school. Matua Fergus has done some relieving so some of the kids have got to know him a bit. The kids haven’t met met Koka Ngaire yet but Koka Nolian has, which is fantastic. Both of them will be teaching Year 5 and 6 classes in 2018.
Kapa haka Recently a school from Rotorua came and performed for us. They performed for us because we had let them practice their songs in our hall. They were practicing for their Kapa Haka festival. I interviewed some people and they all said it was amazing. I personally loved it because they were just AWESOME. They had really strong voices and knew their actions very well.
Athletics This term classes in the school competed at our Athletics day. A lot of kids had fun and got placings. The winning kids from our school competed with different schools in Gisborne at the interschools competition. Out of every school in Gisborne our school came 5th place. We want to thank all the parents who helped with transport, and a big thanks to Koka Sophia for sorting this all out.

Our staff member Ms Terri Hokianga is looking for house sitting possibilities next year. We can certainly vouch for her! She is willing to look after pets as well. If you ring us at school we can put you in contact with her. Phone: 8677160 or email her on:

We really enjoyed the Technology Challenge this term. The challenge was to make a structure out of sand that would allow a golf ball to roll down it. The challenging part was to get the golf ball to go slowly as the winner was the team whose golf ball took the longest time. In the end we had a tie for 2 teams whose ball took 9.45 seconds to get down. We are really grateful that we have a beach across the road from school that we can use as part of our learning!
Harper Ahern and Taj Potter. We did the challenge with our buddies.
Rodney Montford (who used to be our Deputy Principal), and his family are coming to Gisborne for a wedding on the 20th January. They are looking for accommodation/house sitting for 7 -10 days around this date. If you can help them please phone Rodney on 0278249384
