Kia ora, Talofa lava, hi everyone, johm riab sua, neih hou, kia orana, goeiedag, bula, kumusta, Namaste, malo e lelei, chao anh, kohomada, merhaba, kia orana, fakoalofa atu. Whew isn’t this year flying by, we are already in Term 4 and so much is happening. In the holidays the teachers all went to a conference in Rotorua to learn more about using ICT in the classroom and modern teaching methods. It was an amazing time and we all learnt so much, I’m sure you will see and hear about all the great things your children are doing in class. We would like to thank the Board for supporting us in this Professional Development. As most of you will know by now, sadly this is my last term at Linden School. I will be moving to Lyall Bay School to take up the role of principal there in 2015. The Board are in the process of appointing a new principal for Linden school. I hope you all took the opportunity to let the board know what you would like in a new principal by filling in the form that is in the Parent Hub and in the office. Yesterday we held our athletic sports. The weather was amazing, as were all the children. We had a fantastic day with many children showing areas where they are confident and competent that we don’t always all get to see. Many of the teachers also heard examples of children being considerate, such a lot of caring for each other, encouraging each other and camaraderie throughout the day. What a wonderful community we have. It was great to see the parents that managed to get here to support their children too, I know how difficult this is, especially with all the postponements. We are still gathering the results, and from these will pick a team of Year 4, 5 and 6’s, to compete at Tawa Zone’s later in the term. Have a look at some of the photos later in the
newsletter. This week is also production week. All of the classes have been spending a lot of time in creating their own part of the production, which celebrates some of our many cultures. Our production is called ‘The Magical Kete and the Tamariki of Linden School’, we will be performing it at Tawa college, on United Nations day - Friday 24th October at 6pm. All children will need to be at Tawa College by 5.40pm to prepare for the show. We look forward to seeing you all there, being proud of your confident, competent, considerate, and creative children. This week the children have started MoveImprove. A wonderful gymnastics and movement programme. This is run on Thursdays so ask your child to show you some of what they have been doing, I’m pretty sure you will be impressed. Room 3 held a creative assembly last week, where the children from other classes ‘chose’ what was going to happen next. Well done Room 3, it was a very difficult week to have an assembly being the first week back and all the production work you have been doing. The presenters did a great job and were very confident at introducing each ‘choice’. Please make sure you visit our Facebook page (Linden School Tawa) for updates around what is happening at school. It is really handy for keeping everyone up to date with postponements and upcoming events. See you all Friday evening. Melanie Dean Principal

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS …
Room 1 This term Rūma Tahi have been exploring some new apps to help us with our writing. One app that we have been using is 'Show me'. To help us write down our ideas the way we want to, we have been recording our stories into our 'Show me' app, and then listening to them again to help us write! This way, we can easily remember our story and can focus on writing the words we want. We have written all sorts stories, ranging from what we did in the holidays to lions hiding behind couches!!
Room 2 Room 2 have been doing some fantastic reading, We are all reading more fluently, and reaching our reading goals. we have also done lots of reading about festivals, celebrations and other cultures. This term we have been reading lots of books about growing things, how you grow them and what you need to make things grow.
Room 3 Ruma Toru Have Gone Skoolbo Mad! You may have heard the talk around school about Ruma Toru trying out Skoolbo - they are loving it! Skoolbo is an online game where you can create a personalised avatar (profile) and practice maths and literacy skills. The game personalises learning for each student, so it is always 'just right' for each student's learning and never too hard or too easy. It is helping us to be confident and competent in our mathematics and literacy. Another great thing about Skoolbo is that you are able to use it at school and at home. Our next step is to introduce Skoolbo to the other classes at Linden School. We can't wait to share this fantastic learning tool!
Room 8 Room 8 has been getting in a lot of athletics practice since last term. We have been confidently running, throwing and jumping and competently working on our technique. For the arts we have been busy at work finishing our creative kiwiana videos for the production. We are really proud of them and we can't wait to show them to everyone this Friday Room 9 In Room Nine we have been practising hard for the Linden School Production on Friday. A group of students have shown competence and consideration as they collaboratively wrote and re-crafted the script. A lot of creativity was shown when the students made the dance, music and artwork. The students grew in confidence as they took ownership of their performance. Ms Engel is very proud of all their efforts.
