12th Feb, 2016 Talk on “Urbanization and Environment” On 12th Feb, 2016 at 10:00 am an Unstructured Talk was conducted in Ramanujan College’s P-27. Speaker: Ms. Nidhi Batra (Consultant, World Bank) Speaker’s Profile: She is an architect and urban designer by training. She is at present a consultant with the World Bank with the World Bank, her work revolves around participatory planning, environmental planning and in water and sanitation services. She is also a visiting faculty in Jamia Millia Islamia and Sushant School of Architecture their Masters program. Target Audience: 2nd Semester students of B.A (Prog) and B.A (Eng, Hon) attended the lecture. Main Objective Main objective of the talk was to make student understand whole concept of Urban Environmental Planning with special emphasis on to develop correlation with the notion of Sustainable Environmental Architecture. Discussion Ms. Batra started her talk with briefing student with the emerging concept of “Urbanization and Environment”. Later she briefed students with myriad environmental issues like environmental justice, environmental

democracy, urban planning, urban farming, and sustainable cities. She gave special emphasis on Delhi’s Urban Planning and compared it at global level by citing example of environmentally sustainable city of Seoul. She also stated in the name of development how concerned authorities are playing with peoples’ life. She alos explained the detailed concept of Carbon foot printing. At the end of talk she addressed questions asked by the students. Final Comments Interactive session was very much effective and students participated well. It was a much closed interaction as students participated without any hesitation. Talk made them understand architectural perspective of environment planning and student’s Interaction with trained architect and planner was valuable for the student, it has not only widened their horizon but also make them more vocal and confident. Lecture was an attempt to make them think beyond the set notion of urban development.
