Meet the Journalism Class of Trimester 2 Jarvin White is a senior at Bay City Central High School. He was born December 16, 1999 in Bay City, MI. White enjoys hanging out with his friends when he is not at work or at home. He also attends the Career Center in the

10. White is a second year culinary student, and loves to cook. He says, “I like going to Career Center because it takes up the first two hours of school.” White originally wanted to be a chef, but the class at career center has pushed him away from the job choice. He no longer saw himself cooking everyday for a living. He has now chose to become a dentist. White has switched his career path to become a dental hygienist before wanting to become a dentist, because he realized it would only take two years

gienist, while still making good money. But, one day, he was talking to his mom about it, and she convinced him to become a dentist, instead of the assistant. He wants to go to SVSU to continue his education. White says he decided to go to SVSU because it is close to home, and he doesn’t want to be far from his home. He plans on living at home to save money, and commute to SVSU whenever he has class.

Aspiring Photographer, Kyrie McFarland Aaron Welter Kyrie McFarland is a Bay City Central senior. I asked her what she has enjoyed about Central the past four years and she replied, “I like how the teachers are not too strict.” McFarland’s favorite class of all time here at Central is Drama. “As a kid, I participated in Youth Theater at the Bay City Players Auditorium. It taught me more than just the basics of what it was to do acting,” she says. McFarland participates in the Graphics and Printing Communications Program at Career Center, and wants to go to Delta College to transfer out to a bigger university for

photography. McFarland tells me that she enjoys photography because it gets her closer to nature. Her favorite types of pictures are sunrises and sunsets, and her favorite angle is an ant's perspective. McFarland wants to take that knowledge of photography and start her own business in the fu-

ture. The camera she prefers is a Canon Rebel EOS, and the one she has her eye on currently is worth around $4,000. McFarland says she has been to many popular tourist destinations around Michigan. Her overall goal is to travel to the Grand Canyon National Park, and popular destinations in California. Picture Credit: McFarland

Isiah Narvaiz, Dedicated Lifter Isiah Narvaiz was born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 1st, 2000. Narvaiz attends Central High School, and is currently a senior. He works at the Boys and Girls club and lifts at the YMCA after school. Narvaiz is very invested in his fitness, as he works out 6 days of the week with his friend, and assistant, Marcos Facundo. Since he’s started this lifting lifestyle, about a year and a half ago, he’s cut out all pop. After he is finishes his workout, he ends the session with a 20 minute sauna sitting, in full clothes. One quote that he really follows is, “Don’t quit; you either do it, or just freakin’ do it.” After Narvaiz’s hard workouts

he comes home to relax with video games or some t.v. Narvaiz particularly likes watching his favorites teams: the Detroit Lions and Pistons, as these two sports are the most interesting to him. If these sports aren’t on, you can catch him playing on his PC or Xbox, and really being himself. Narvaiz also really enjoys being himself while working at the Boys and Girls Club. Narvaiz has worked there for over a year now and enjoys the time he spends with the youth of the city. Narvaiz’s plans for after high school are to go to Delta College and become an electrical engineer, and he would love to travel to new places for the new chapter in his life.

From the age of three, Malena Facundo has been spending most of her free time in and out of the dance studio. Facundo started her dance career at the age of three at Bay Valley Academy, where she took recreational classes. After only four years of dancing, Facundo was asked to

join Bay Valley’s competitive dance team at age seven. Three times a week, Facundo took tap, jazz, and ballet classes. The Fashionista

Takari Johnston is a 16 year old, October baby dreaming of being born in the warm summer months. Johnston is a full time student at Bay City Central High School, as well as a full time shopaholic. In Johnston’s free time, she loves hanging out with her closest friends. In the summertime, you can catch them at the beach, or year round at any shopping center. Johnston’s favorite thing to do is go shopping. Johnston says, “I love being able to expand my wardrobe and get new things.” Although she always likes to look nice, she is not a fan of wearing dresses or being too dressed up, and never will we catch her in sweatpants, patterned leggings, or a benchwarm-

ers jersey. Johnston’s favorite thing to wear is off the shoulder shirts and high waisted jeans, typically paired with sneakers or booties. According to her, what really compliments an outfit is the jewelry; including hooped earrings and a dainty necklace, or simple studs with a statement necklace. Johnston’s phone is constantly getting “blown up” by friends for fashion advice, and she is the first one they always go to. One of Johnston’s biggest pieces of advice is to never wear denim on denim, and to never wear light pants or jeans with a light shirt. Pictured: Takari Johnston Picture Credit: Takari Johnston

Bay City Central's very own Amber Aguirre is completing her senior year of high school. Aguirre says, “Central is full of opportunities and more people should be involved” Aguirre is very involved: she participates in marching band, as a section leader for percussion; Bay City Steelers; and the varsity tennis team. She said being a section leader, especially the only one, was difficult at times, but it was a great experience. Alongside those things, she has involved herself in orchestra during her sophomore year, and this year's fall play, and tech crew for her junior year. Aguirre is making the most of her senior year with co-op at the Bay County Histori-

Isabella Gripentrog: Future Politician? Bay City Central student Isabella Gripentrog pays it forward outside of the classroom by volunteering at the local hospital gift shop, the state theatre, and by being a director at a local youth theatre group. In school, Gripentrog shows interest towards government and history, due to it’s relevance today. Volunteering at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital, Gripentrog helps out in the gift shop once a week for one hour each time. There, Gripentrog greets customers and helps with stocking shelves. Gripentrog also enjoys helping out at the State Theatre twice a month. Working at the concession stand, she usually will stay for 2-3 hours each time. Showing support to the local youth theatre program, Gripentrog also directs children’s plays, which helps her rack up a total of about 100 hours over the course of three months each year. “I hope it will help me with scholarships,” she says.

When asked what her favorite part about school is, Gripentrog answered that she enjoys learning about government and history. Specifically, Gripentrog finds World War II the most intriguing. “World War II was one of the darkest periods. We’re seeing a lot of the ideologies from then pop up in the present,” she explains. “I think it’s important to learn about.” Gripentrog finds herself interested in politics. She enjoys government class because it teaches us how and why government is the way it is, and also because she can learn more about what shapes present-day politics. Isabella Gripentrog: future politician? The world may never know, but one thing is for sure. Her favorite animals are dogs and cats, but she also has a unique liking for domesticated rats. “They’re like dogs but smarter,” she says. “Domesticated rats are so cute.”

He has plans to study medicine in undergraduate school, before moving on to graduate school, to pursue a career as a physician’s assistant. Lehmann enjoys a variety of activities, including skiing, snowmobiling, and track; but more importantly, Lehmann can be described through his football career, and a love for Star-

So busy, in fact, that he lead the team in tackles, which is not common for a defensive end. A two year First Team All Valley winner and a Saginaw Academic All Valley Team member, Lehmann was also awarded the Golden Helmet Player of the Year. When

A frequent flyer of types, Lehmann is a certified Gold Status member of the Starbucks Rewards club. He has no specific drink, saying it, “Depends on the day.” In fall season, the go to drink is a Pumpkin Spice Latte, while the winter sees the Mocha Latte, with a requested two pumps of mocha and an extra shot of espresso. During the warmer months, Chai Tea Latte is Lehmann’s go-to.
