Varsity Football Team takes on a tough opponent when they travel to Flint Carmen-Ainsworth. Its Carmen's homecoming game, as they sit at 3-2, tied with Central. It’s possibly the biggest game of the year as the winner will most likely be the valley champions, and a loss on either side means not being able to host a playoff game. The game will be on Saturday at 1PM, instead of the usual Friday night time. Central looks to bounce back after a crushing overtime defeat at home, to Midland High 42-35.

backer, Seth Ciesla, injured his elbow verses Midland High, and will not play this week. This means Junior, Camron Monville, will step in and try to fill the void in the middle of that defense. Brian Elder looks to continue his impressive start, with weapons such as Dequez Weathers, Devell Washington, and Judson Morse. Carmen has had the edge on Central over the past few years, so this should be a very interesting game to watch.

NHL Emergency Goalies

Every NHL team needs to have an extra goalie that can play for the team when one - or both goalies - can’t play in a game. In one case, the Chicago Blackhawks had to dress Eric Semborski, because their starter Corey Crawford fell ill. He didn’t play but he was the backup for Scott Darling. Arizona Coyotes had a similar problem last year as well, after one of their goalies got injured during

the warmups. Nathan Schoenfeld was called up while bathing his twin babies, and left his wife with them to go be the backup goalie for the Coyotes. The LA Kings and New Jersey Devils are having tryouts for this emergency position. They are the only two teams that are having tryouts, and it’s a great opportunity for someone that lives in the area, if needed. The LA Kings will allow 30 people to try out that live in the LA area, but there are some qualifications: You have to be at least 18, played in high school amateur hockey, and not have a contract or play

Brandon Sheredy within a pro league. The New Jersey Devils’ have already had their tryouts for this position, with similar qualifications. Only 15 people have tried out for this position, one of them being Steven Porzio. Porzio talked about the experience and mentioned, “You walk through the locker room area and see all the team photos, the little replica Stanley Cups, that gives you chills a little bit.” Pictured: Eric Semborski warming up Picture Credit: Source Some information taken from Source and Source

BCC vs Glenn

Bay City Central Football will have its first game against an across-town rival, John Glenn. John Glenn was added to the Bay City Central football schedule after their recent addition to the Saginaw Valley League that took effect the 2017-2018 school year. The Valley has faced difficulty, but they have fared well being middle of the pack in the standings. Central is entering the game with big hopes to entertain their thoughts on playoff football and chance at Saginaw Valley League honors. Six wins is the number BCC is shooting for to grant them a MHSAA playoff spot. The game is coming at a pivot-

al time for BCC as a headline for their homecoming game. John Glenn has played Bay City Central in other athletic activities such as soccer, baseball, etc... but this will be their first matchup in football. The game has grown in excitement from the players as they can finally play a team whose school is just across town. Bay City Central junior Brian Elder replies with his thoughts, “I’m excited to play a team that we have been around for so long and never got a shot at.” The matchup will mark a new Bay City rivalry in comparison to Bay City Central and Bay City Western. The game will be pivotal in defining the best Bay City

Fall Show Time

This year's fall show is a little different than the usual show done at Central High School. It is not just the Central students performing this year, it is now Central and Western High School performing together. From now on, until the foreseeable future, the program will be the Bay City Public School’s Theater Program. The two schools have been rivals, but have now decided to become one, cohesive program. The person behind all of this is, Ms. Lori Anthony. “There's no competition in theater, and I wanted to give the kids an opportunity to do more than one show a year.” Anthony has been directing since 2010. “I started to direct because my daughters loved the-

ater, and they needed a director at Handy. I had a degree in theater, and figured, ’Why not?’” This year they are putting on Les Miserables. Anthony says, “I want the kids to enjoy this show, say that they got to perform, and be proud of it.” The team is Lori Anthony, director; P.J Burke, assistant director; Ashley Sabourin, choreographer; Anastasia Ibanez, choreographer; Howard McLean stage design and decoration; and Matt Reid, technical director. There are about 75 students performing in this show, plus the tech crew.

Our Universe is Not What it Seems On September 16th, the Satellites Around Galactic Analogs released some early information taken from their survey of our Milky Way ‘sibliings’. The Milky Way, compared to it’s ‘siblings’, has the potential to be an outlier. This may be a problem, since everything we know about how the universe works depends on how our ‘siblings’ behave in a similar fashion to our home galaxy. Many models of our universe are based on how the Milky Way and its analogous galaxies work. But, as SAGA has found, the Milky Way might be an outlier. Most satellites around our ‘sibling’ galaxies are making new stars constantly, while our own are more tranquil in nature. In fact, as SAGA stated in their survey paper, a majority of satellites are star forming (26 out of 27). What this means for our models of the universe is still unknown. There is only the potential

for the Milky Way to be an outlier, it is not certain. As SAGA researcher Risa Wechsler, an astrophysicist at the Kavli Institute at Stanford University, said, “Our work puts the Milky Way into a broader context...The Saga sur-

Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a type of modern-day slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others. There are different types of human trafficking such as sex trafficking and labor trafficking. Human trafficking can occur at any time, in any place. Michigan is ranked number two in the country for human trafficking. Sex trafficking is where people are forced to have sex for their basic necessities such as food and water. The

people can be sold for profit and the process will continue. Sex trafficking is the number one type of trafficking here in Michigan. Labor trafficking is where people are forced to work. Minors have strict labor laws here in Michigan and they can occasionally be overworked, and may not have a say in it. This would be a prime example of labor trafficking. Human trafficking is the second largest criminal enterprise, following right after drugs. Since June of 2007, the National Human Trafficking Resource Center has received 1,969 calls and 483 cases in Michigan alone. Out of 136 reported cases in Michigan, around 95 of those people are adults. Over half of the people being trafficked are females.

Student Profile: Josh Hoerner Josh Hoerner is a senior at Bay City Central this year. In his previous year's, Hoerner attended multiple honors and AP courses. This year, Hoerner is CoOping at his current job, C.C. Advising, a credit counsel agency, in Downtown Bay City. He mostly works in the marketing aspect, such as sending out advertisements and online promotions. So, he only has time for one AP class, which is AP Biology. Before graduating BCC Hoerner is planning to apply for as many scholarships as possible, to help him pay for college. After high school, Hoerner is hoping his CoOp job will open up more opportunities for a well paying job to contribute to the tuition of college. Hoerner is a huge sports fan, whether it be football, baseball, and even basketball. Hoerner has been playing baseball since the age of ten. Since then, he

has played many positions, such as, left field, first base, third base, and as designated hitter. His passion for baseball did not stop, even when an injury made

it look as though his 7 year streak would end. On May 11th, BCC was down 6-7 versus Midland Dow. They had two runners on base, and Hoerner was up to bat. Jacob Stone threw a fast pitch at 85 mph. Hoerner, having no time to swing, was instead hit in the left eye. He was rushed to the hospital and it was predicted

he would need surgery. Fortunately, it didn’t call for that, instead he was on bed rest for a week due to blood build-up behind his eye, any sudden movement could cause it to burst. Outside of school, Hoerner attends Lions football games, and hangs out with his friends almost every day. He makes sure to attend almost all of BCC’s sports activities. He enjoys football games, and basketball games the most. Making sure he’s in front row of student section, cheering on our teams. Overall, Hoerner enjoys living a productive life, and doing the most. The Probe that will Graze the Sun On August 3, 2017, NASA announced it’s mission overview for it’s new space probe that will fly to the sun. The Parker Solar Probe, which will be launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, has the historic mission to help us understand how stars work. As the closest probe to the sun, it will face brutal heat and will provide the closest observations humanity has taken yet.

The Parker Solar Probe will get there by flying 162 million miles to Venus. It will use it’s

gravity for seven years until it’s as close as it can get to the sun. It will be flying about 3.9 million miles from the surface of the star’s surface with a 4.5 inchthick carbon composite shield in temperatures as high as 2,500℉. This is still well within the range of Mercury’s orbit, and is seven times closer to the sun than we’ve ever gone before. By flying through the sun’s corona, NASA will be testing and observing various things about the sun. It will observe solar wind speeds up from subsonic to supersonic, as well as trace how energy moves through the corona. This information will explain to us how solar winds and particles gain speed, and answer questions we’ve been asking for the last 60 years. Our sun is the only star we can study. The Parker Solar Probe can help answer questions like how life developed on earth, and further explain how solar wind affects space weather, and how that in turn can affect our

NHL China Games The NHL China games were an attempt to bring hockey over to China, and grow an audience over there. It was hard to deal with, but they were able to play two preseason games in Beijing and Shanghai. It was hard to grow an audience because China doesn’t play a lot of traditional winter sports, and a lot of Chinese people haven’t even seen a hockey game. Even though they had trouble getting people to come to the hockey games, they gave away

The probe was renamed after Eugene Parker, an astrophysicist from the University of Chicago, who proposed multiple concepts on how stars gave off energy during the 1950s. At the unveiling ceremony he said, “The solar probe is going to a region of space that has never been explored before… It’s very exciting that we’ll finally get a look. One would like to have some more detailed measurements on what’s going on in the solar wind. I’m sure there will be some surprises. There always are.” NASA expects to launch the Parker Solar Probe in 2018, with the launch window of July 31st through August 19th. Information taken from: Source. Quote taken from: Source. CT Fletcher

CT Fletcher, a man of few words, is in need of a new heart. Years ago, he had open heart surgery, three times, and was brought back to life, three times. Fletcher, a former power lifter, ended up needing an emergency open heart surgery after his valve was too weak. Fletcher and his doctor believe it was because of his diet. The diet included four Big Macs, four large fries, two milk shakes and four apple pies. After Fletcher had his surgery, he suddenly became famous because a guy from YouTube asked to hear and record his life story, and how he was the world’s strongest man. Fletcher set the world record for strict bar curl at 225 pounds, and the drug

free bench press at 650 pounds. After that got out, people were inspired by his story, and decided to do something that they wanted to do. Fletcher eventually opened his own gym, called Iron Addicts Gym. It was hard for him to keep clients because people said he was like a drill sergeant, but it finally picked up. Many celebrity powerlifters have gone to his gym, and have admitted that

Marcos Facundo Fletcher is very intense. Recently, Fletcher was hospitalized and was told he needed a new heart. Fletcher tweeted that he had mixed emotions about being on the transplant list, because someone has to die for him to get the new heart. So he is trying a new diet: vegan. He said it’s not that bad, and he likes it. Still, Fletcher is trying to go to the gym when he can, but he is taking a break so he can get his energy up. Pictured: Ct Fletcher Picture Credit: Source

Close Finish Procrastination is the art of waiting until the last possible second to do something. It can range from anything, from school work, to taking out the trash. Procrastination can have many negative affects on us such as anxiety. So, why do we do it? Most of the time as a procrastinator at some point in your life you will receive a negative label. Something like lazy, disorganized, or someone who just doesn't care enough. However most of the time these simply aren't true which ties in with why we do it in the first place. A large portion of the time people procrastinate because they are afraid of failure. They don't want to disappoint anyone so they wait until the last second when they absolutely must. Sometimes it's the opposing side of the coin, where people are afraid of success. They believe if they do accomplish what they are supposed to do, to well or to early that people may expect more from them.

Page 6

Zachary Pluto Meaning they give you more tasks to complete. The last group would be the perfectionists. Those who want to do the job but it must be done perfectly or it's not worth doing. They think about what they must do, allot. Only when they feel as though they can accomplish the task perfectly will they actually do it. Procrastination is slightly linked to your parents as well. As in it´s inherited. However it's also like to how you are raised. The main factor is goal-management ability. So how you were taught as a kid to do your chores can have an impact on how you do your work. If as a kid you always made a plan first and then tackled the problem, chances are you're doing that now. If you were like most kids and hated chores. You probably waited until the last minute when your parents were yelling at you to do them. Which would be why your paper for work is due in 5 minutes. “Never put off till to-

morrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” Pictured: Procrastination

Detroit Tigers say Goodbye to Brad Ausmus Detroit Tigers announced that they won’t be bringing back Brad Ausmus, who was the team manager, after the 2017 season. During his four years with the Tigers, Ausmus went 312-325. The team is ready, and thinks it will be the best for them if they got a fresh start with a new manager. Al Avila, the Tigers general manager said, “Ausmus has done an admirable job, and we do appreciate his professionalism that he did throughout his four years with us.” Searching for a new team manager they want, “someone that is going to lead the team as it turns a new crop of

young players,“ Avila quoted. When Ausmus found out that the Tigers were letting him, go he was upset, but he understood. Ausmus became manager November 3rd 2013, when Jim Leyland stepped down. Ausmus was the 37th team manager for the Tigers. The tigers had to made changes that made the game harder to play for them, because they are on their way to the worst record since 2003. Before even becoming a team manager, Ausmus was a great player at the major-league level as well, playing 18 seasons

Unsung Heroes of Bay City Central Like any movie you watch, or book you read, it’s not just the cast or the author that are at work. There are many behind the scenes people, who without, couldn’t make things happen. We take for granted here at BCC all that we are given, and I believe it is time to give credit, where credit is due. At BCC we have been blessed with wonderful staff who are recognized daily for their commitment to the school and students, but who is here before the doors open and after they’re shut, aside from the select few teachers who go beyond expectations? Our janitorial staff and our lunch aids are the backbone of this school, whom without we would not function properly. I firmly believe they deserve this long forgotten recognition. While students trash the halls and leave behind trails of garbage, paper, and food in their wake, our janitors are not far behind, cleaning it up and making sure our school is clean. They often stay after hours making sure our classrooms are

vacuumed, and our hallways are swept. Although, occasionally we’re out paper towels in the bathroom, and it can be frustrating, they are always willing to refill as soon as they receive notice. Sure our lunches are not the most prestige, or fancy. However our lunch aids work very hard to provide us with a variety of different meal options. I feel we truly underestimate all they do for us, and believe they should not be taken advantage of any longer. They’ve been hired to provide students with breakfast and lunch, but their duties do not end there. They have to tolerate dis-

respect, and the mess any student leaves behind. Even though, they encounter things like that, I have never once felt they do not enjoy what they do. Every day there is a smile on their faces. They deserve appreciation. I asked a lunch aid recently how she felt working here at BCC and she responded, “I enjoy working here at Central, it’s a good place to be.“ Pictured: Lunch aides at B.C.C getting ready to prepare lunch. Shooting at Georgia Tech Campus police were called to an accident at Georgia Tech involving Scout Schultz, a computer engineer major and

president of the school Pride Alliance, an LGBTQ group. An initial 911 call stated Schultz had a gun and knife, but video’s of the incident show just a knife. Schultz refused to put his knife down as officers intervened. Video reports

show officers told Schultz to drop the knife. Schultz refused to follow their commands. Schultz then began to proceed walking toward the officers shouting “shoot me”. They told him again to stop at once, but he kept walking, forcing one officer to shoot. Schultz was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Schultz’s family attorney is questioning why the incident couldn’t have been handled with non-lethal measures. Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into and investigating the shooting done by the campus police department. Trump vs NFL Tensions rose high this weekend with the president’s words about the protests in the NFL during the National Anthem. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when someone disrespects our flag to say, `Get that son of a b**ch off the field right now! Out. He’s fired! He’s fired!”, exclaimed Trump, early last weekend at a rally in Alabama. He immediately was met with response from the players and owners in the NFL declaring what he said was completely over the line. Roger Goodell, the league commissioner, responded to Trump’s comments saying that they were “divisive”. Due to those comments made by Trump, this Sunday marked an important day for the NFL to respond to comments made by the president, and did they ever. Almost every team had a different way of approaching the anthem. Some of those including the Jacksonville

Kendrick Brissette Jaguars, who were in London for their game, stood arm in arm, including much of the front office and owner, Shadid Khan. Due to Jacksonville playing earlier than everyone else that day, everyone saw it. Many followed their approach to the anthem. Some teams like Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Seattle didn’t even come out for the anthem. Coach of the Steelers, Mike Tomlin, said he wanted to keep his players from picking a side in the battle. Not to mention the entire team of Dallas took a knee at the Monday night game.

This issue is by far from over, but if more scrutiny keeps coming down on these protests, it should be interesting to see what happens. College Basketball Corruption

In college basketball, it’s all about having the best team. That means recruiting, spending time in the gym, traveling to other gyms, and developing the feel of a player’s athletic ability. Coaches and scouts travel all across the country looking for the next big thing. When they find the next

best thing, they do everything in there power to get it. The first way they do this is by bribing players. Not bribing as in giving them scholarships, but bribing the players with things that you wouldn’t usually expect. There have been coaches that have bought their former player`s with extra money, or even a car. In the NCAA handbook, this is illegal and against the rules. Coaches doing this can be fired if caught, and terminated from the school. Secondly, coaches put a big amount of pressure on players to make their decision to go to their school. They constantly call them

She has also taken Advanced Placement classes the past 2 years.. Her favorite teacher at BCC is Don Tilley. McCarty is already in the process of joining the Air Force. She has a love for aviation. Her favorite television show is Airplane Repo. She said that her dream was to fly a plane. She hasn’t gotten the chance to, but hopes the Air Force will give her the opportunity to fulfill her dream. McCarty also loves making music. She owns an acoustic and an electric guitar, and is really good at playing them. McCarty has been playing guitar since 7th grade. She said she plays during her free time to get better. She also likes to read a lot of books, Augusten Burroughs is her favor-

McCarty has done plenty of great things for students at BCC. She has always volunteered herself to decorate for events. She signs up for things like Link Crew to help other incoming students become comfortable with BCC. McCarty said, “Incoming students should not be afraid to try new things.”

Similar Things About the US and Brazil

We all know that there are many differences between the United States and Brazil. They have totally opposite cultures, but through so many indifferences, there are also many things in common.

Both are friendly. Brazilians who come to visit the United States are surprised by compliments such as, "I like your shoes," or, "I love your hair," because in Brazil, we are nice and very receptive, but we don’t speak to strangers..

Both do not know much about the other country. Americans don't imagine that there are white people in Brazil, and think that Brazilians speak Spanish or Brazilian. There isn't a Brazilian language, we speak Portuguese, but it’s different from Portuguese from Portugal. Brazilians don't know that in the United States, children from an early age learn how to do housework, because that usually doesn’t happen in Brazil. The cuisine of the two countries may not be very similar, but they have something in common: both are a mixture of flavors of different origins. In Brazil and the United States there are several Italian, Asian, Japanese and other types of restaurants. There are also American restaurants in Brazil, and Brazilian restaurants in the United States. Both Portuguese and English are languages very difficult to

BCC Golf Win Four teams, one winner. Bay City Central, Essexville Garber, Bangor John Glenn, and Bay City Western all met at the Bay County Golf Course on Friday, September 22, 2017, for the annual golf Counties. Each school brought five or six golfers to compete for their school and to hopefully come out on top. On a scorching hot 94 degree day, BCC girl golfers didn’t seem to be affected by the temperature. “I really wanted to win, probably more than most. I wanted to leave a mark as my senior year golf season is coming to a close,” says two sport standout BCC senior Briar Kukla. Central has won three out of the four previous golf Counties, their one loss came in 2015 when they only lost by two strokes.

Ana Gabriel Silveira learn. There are phrases in Portuguese that are translated into English and don't make sense, and the same happens with some phrases in English translated to Portuguese. Maybe Americans think it's easy to learn English because there are people all over the world who speak it, but the language is quite complicated to learn and understand. The same happens for Portuguese, because there are a lot of rules and accentuations for words. And without doubt, both want to see the country in a better situation, and both complain about their current situation. Pictured: Website Para Ser Piloto Source:

150+ Years of Disagreement Causing Issues Today This issue regarding the removal of historic Confederate statues can be traced back to the disturbing, racial-hate fueled attack on blacks by a white supremacist. The Confederate flag was used as a symbol of strong aversion for this event, after pictures of it had surfaced of the assailant posing with the emblemed banner. This discovery unleashed a battle within the state of South Carolina asking if the Confederate flag should be taken down from the capitol building, after years of it flying. The dismissal of the monuments and emblems have resulted in many individuals and groups of people manipulating the facts to provide different interpretations in favor of those that will cause turmoil. There are definitely two sides regarding this topic: the side in favor of uphold-

ing these historic monuments that depict the events of the past, and the side that would much rather see the statues removed from the public area. The underlying result of this problem is the greater divide being implemented between local areas of impacted states and cities. The direct response toward this tends to be hateful acts and violence. In regards to the proConfederacy side, the individuals view the structures as respectful tributes to confederate leaders and figures, while the antiConfederacy side believes that the statues of these historic figures embodies white supremacy and racism to an extent. Maddison Kalinowski, a student at Bay City Central, was asked about what her view on this social and political matter. Kalinowski shared, “It is truly a shame to see

iOS 11 Review As most of you know, iOS 11 has been released to the public recently. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, go to Settings> General> Software Update. iOS 11 has upgraded the quality of the iPhone, in my opinion. It has allowed you to finally customize your control center. It reminds me kind of widgets that are on Androids. That function has been long awaited for by iPhone users. Also, new with the update, is the new notification center. The notification center now lets you swipe down and see your lock screen accompanied by all old and new notifications that you haven't viewed before. This update has a lot of small tweaks to it. They have a new app that comes with your phone called “Files”. This app reminds me of Google Drive, but with that

They have said this with every iOS update, and I don't see much of a difference when I use Siri. The only thing that I like about the new Siri is that she gets more relevant an-

The Wolves’ Howl Volume VI, Issue III Police Brutality In Oklahoma City on September 22, Mr. Sanchez was approached by two police men while he was sitting on his porch. Police claimed that Sanchez was holding a metal pipe, they began telling him to lay down and not to move. Neighbors of Sanchez were trying to tell the police that Sanchez was not only deaf but also disabled, but the police didn’t listen. One shot his taser at Sanchez, and the other shot him in the chest, and killing him. Sanchez isn’t the only innocent person that brutalized police have killed. Robert Davis was arrested and beaten by police, on suspicion of being intoxicated. On October 6, 2005, Davis returned to New Orleans to check on property. While he was in a French

Callie Sage Quarter, four police attacked him. Police claimed Davis was resisting arrest, many witnesses recorded what had happened. African Americans are more than likely to be unarmed when they are killed. In 2006, Kathryn Johnston was killed by two police men from Atlanta. Johnston was sitting in her home alone when police burst in without warning, she fired at them with a handgun. They

fired back and they hit her about 5 or 6 times. Johnston was killed, police pleaded guilty to manslaughter. October 22, is known as “National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality.” Most acts of police brutality get dismissed or cleared. Many police departments don’t provide training for nonviolent situations, which is why most people believe that cops are very careless. According to MLive, the three Black students were in the Michigan Community Scholars Program, located in West Quad Residence Hall. The hate speech, including "N-----," was written underneath their name tags placed on their dorm room doors. The students involved in this incident started a campaign on twitter stating, "stand in solidarity with the three black students who were directly targeted by this heinous offense." This statement by the affected students turned into a protest with approximately 150 students

Chelsey Rouse that marched up the stairs to the Union's Rogel Ballroom, where they then met with UM administrators, including President Mark Schlissel and Chief Diversity Officer Robert Sellers. The administrators listened to the students voice about the issue, and their frustration on the lack of concern for it. A fight broke out when students marched down the road and began protesting on the
