Weekly Incident Summary April 25-May 1, 2016 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, April 25, 2016 15:21 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Cedar Road in Acton. On scene staff met with building personnel who advised that the wood working teacher was using a torch to age some wood. A smoke detector was activating in the wood working room. The alarm was reset and the students and staff were allowed to re-enter. Tuesday, April 26, 2016 15:34 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Norton Crescent. While enroute, ambulance advised that fire was no longer required on scene. 15:56 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Queen St E in Acton. On scene staff spoke with building personnel who advised that there was no alarm at this location. Fire staff entered the building and checked the main panel upstairs and no indication there either. The monitoring company will investigate. Fire staff cleared the scene 19:04 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on Stevens Cres. On scene staff met with the neighbour who advised that a smoke alarm was heard sounding and opened the front door to see if anyone was inside, and when called out no one answered. Upon entering the home, the crew reported light smoke conditions and found the cause to be a pot on the stove. The stove off was turned and crews then vented any smoke from the house. No occupants were found inside the home and no smoke or fire damage was noted inside. The home was left in hands of the Halton Regional Police until they could locate the owner. 20:55 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of the smell of propane outside a home on Rexway Drive. On scene staff met with the homeowner with no odour present. Fire staff found a propane tank that had expired with the bottom half covered in ice. Crews ensured the valve was closed and advised the homeowner to properly dispose of the tank. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 22:06 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision with a gas line ruptured on Fourth Line. No injuries to the driver but Union Gas were required to shut off and repair the natural gas line.

Thursday, April 28, 2016 02:26 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Guelph Street. Crews found levels of CO in the home coming from the boiler in the basement. The boiler was shut off and the home was vented. The owner was checked out by ambulance personnel but refused transport. 21:17 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a light post sparking on Charles St. On scene, fire staff did not find any sparks or arcing from the pole but remained on scene until Hydro arrived to correct the problem. Friday, April 29, 2016 00:02 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation in the area of Steeles Avenue & Eighth Line. On scene staff met with security. The alarm system was showing water flow in Building 3 but no water flow or other issues found. There was work done on the system earlier in the day. The system was taken offline until repairs can be made. 09:03 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of smoke in the area on Miller Drive. Crews searched the building and could not locate any source for a smell of smoke. Building personnel were asked to call again if the smell returned. 13:57 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist on Ainley Trail. Crews found a water line in the basement had burst, flooding the basement. Crews were unable to shut off the water valve to the home due to the location of the break and called Regional Water Works to shut water to the home. Crews were able to crimp the burst line to significantly reduce the flow of water until Regional staff arrived. 20:04 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible chimney fire on 17 Sideroad. On scene staff could see light smoke coming from chimney between the mortar 18 inches below the top of the chimney. An interior check was done with no heat found but an odour and light haze of smoke visible. Fire staff laddered the roof and checked the chimney to find a large amount of creosote build-up. A further check was done of the second floor and attic space again with no issues found. The homeowner was advised not to burn in the fireplace due to the deteriorated conditions of the chimney. Sunday, May 1, 2016 09:06 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Delrex Blvd. Prior to arrival crew was advised they were no longer required. 18:39 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist on Mill St E in Acton. On scene staff met with the homeowner who had locked themselves out. Fire staff gained entry and cleared the scene. Weekly Safety Message May 1-7, 2016 is Emergency Preparedness Week.
