Weekly Incident Summary June 15 – 21, 2015 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, June 15, 2015 08:18 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Rosefield Drive. Ambulance was on scene upon arrival and advised that fire was no longer required. 12:35 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Dawson Crescent. Upon arrival on scene, the alarm could be heard. A quick check of the exterior found nothing showing inside. The rear door was unlocked and staff checked in the house with no problems found and the alarm reset itself. 15:38 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Regional Road 25, north of 15 Sideroad. On scene, staff found that the fire had been extinguished prior to arrival. Fire staff could not determine the amount of smoke it was producing. They will no longer be burning at this burn location. 23:11 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Kingham Drive in Acton. On scene staff met with the homeowners who advised that the CO detector on the main floor was chirping. Fire staff checked the home with the gas detectors and no readings were found. The CO detector in the home was nearing its recommended life. The homeowner was advised to replace the unit. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 02:56 Hours – Fire fighters responded a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Adamson and Guelph Streets in Norval. Halton Regional Police and ambulance were on scene upon arrival. On scene, staff found a vehicle wedged between a tree and fence. Fire crews assisted ambulance staff and removed the patient from the vehicle, no extrication required. The patient was treated on scene by ambulance staff. 06:41 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Steeles Avenue and Ninth Line. Ambulance was on scene upon arrival. Fire staff blocked Steeles Avenue. No extrication was required on either vehicle. Drivers of both vehicles were injured in the collision. Fire crews assisted ambulance staff with patient care and stabilized the vehicles. Halton Regional Police arrived on scene. Patients were transported to hospital by ambulance. 08:15 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of 15 Sideroad and Fourth Line. Neither driver was injured and both refused medical aid stating they were fine. Batteries were disconnected on both vehicles and no other issues.

12:20 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on First Line in Milton. A faulty detector was suspected as the cause of the alarm. The owner had already contacted his service company and they were responding to troubleshoot the alarm system. 18:27 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle on fire in the area of Regional Road 25 and 10 Sideroad. Milton Fire was already on scene and working to extinguish the vehicle fire. The fire was somewhat difficult to extinguish due to a fuel line leaking and feeding fuel to the fire. The fuel line was eventually pinched off and foam was used to extinguish the remaining fire. Halton Hills FD staff confirmed the fire was out before returning to quarters. 18:34 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Eighth Line, north of Wildwood Road. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner. Crews checked the home with detectors and zero readings were found. The homeowner was advised to air the unit out and replace the unit if it continues to chirp, suspect faulty detector. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 01:43 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on McGilvray Crescent. A neighbor across the street had awoken to the sound of crackling and saw flames from the house across the street. Together with their neighbour, the homeowner attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose and fire extinguisher. The fence and other material was on fire beside the home and starting to work its way towards the overhead soffits and a nearby shed. On scene crews extinguished the remainder of the fire. Additional crews were sent inside to check for fire extension into the home and attic. There was no fire extension into the home, however light smoke was visible in the attic. Crews ventilated the home. Before the scene was turned back over to the homeowner crews checked for CO (carbon monoxide) and HCN (hydrogen cyanide), and nothing was found. The fire was ignited by a carelessly discarded cigarette thrown into a waste basket by a family member. 09:06 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Peel Street in Acton. Halton Regional Police were already on scene upon arrival. Ambulance arrived on scene and continued with patient care. Thursday, June 18, 2015 15:04 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a hazardous materials spill on Tenth Line, north of 27 Sideroad. A representative from the Ministry of the Environment was on scene. 16 Boxes marked flammable and corrosive were found on scene. None of the packages were leaking. The scene was turned over to the MOE and Public Works Superintendent. A hazardous materials contractor responded to remove the product. 18:31 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a public assist in the area of Maple Avenue and Delrex Blvd. While on scene for a public event, fire staff came across a patient who

had passed out. Fire staff provided patient care until ambulance arrived and transported the patient to the hospital. Friday, June 19, 2015 09:03 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Durham Street. On scene, staff found the patient having difficulty breathing. Fire staff administered oxygen until ambulance arrived. 22:00 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Willow St N in Acton. On scene, staff checked the home using detectors and found no CO present in the home. Fire staff installed smoke alarms on the second floor outside the bedrooms and in basement area. Fire staff also installed a battery in the smoke alarm in main floor living area. 22:54 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a smell of natural gas on Meadowlark Drive. On scene staff could not smell any gas. Fire staff checked the home using detectors and found no readings. Saturday, June 20, 2015 03:03 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Ontario Street. On scene, staff checked the home using detectors and found no CO present in the home. Due to the age of the CO detector, the homeowner was advised to have it replaced. Sunday, June 21, 2015 14:44 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Ewing Street. On scene staff spoke with the resident who was burning green branches, causing smoke. The homeowner did not have a valid permit and was advised to extinguish the fire and renew their permit before lighting. 16:42 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 25, north of Highway 7. Ambulance was on scene upon arrival and advised fire staff they were not required. Weekly Safety Message Remove leaves and trash from carports and garages: Combustible materials are dangerous if they are exposed to heated automobile components, especially under the vehicle.
