The Christians, who were among the early settlers ot West Sehuy1er, lierkimer,Co. N Y. were descendants at Buhaud Christian (probably one of the exiled Palatines), b in Europe 3/24/1725, who came fram the Isle of Man to America & settled near Peekskill. Dutchess Co, N Y, where he married a "low Dutch 1ady" (a Ho1lander.:~) & had 2 sons, James & .Tohn. James was killed 1n the Revolutionary War, in which both sons participated. John Christian b near Peekskill 11/1/1753. d West Sohuy'ler 1/9/1835; m Jane Erower who was b a/2a1l'55 & d 3/14/1813 The ~owera lived in the neighborhood of Schuyler.Chn of John & Jane Brower Christian: 1 2

of their liTes in W Schuyler, but in their later years lived in Ilion with their son Robert j. Another one of the Christian family who came to W Schuyler was George Christian, oousin of Charles. These two families probably came togetber. ( George Christian was b in Fls~ll, Dutchess Co, 11/5/1762, & d W Schuyler ~19/l799. He mar 2/25/1783 Jemima OakleY' who was b 4/11/1764. She was dau of Jared Oakley who was sheriff of Dutchess Co & was killed by Tories during the Revolution. George Christian with his w & ohn & probably John Christian oame up the Hudson & Mohawk Rivers in a flat boat, the trip from DutChess Co to W Schuyler, taking 3 weeks. llra Jemima Christian pieced a bedquilt on the Jottrney. George Christian 1s said by his descendants to haTe built the first log house in W Schuyler. After his death in 1799 (apparently fram pneumonia), his widow moved to the Tillage of Utioa, as her children would have 'a better ohanoe to learn & trade there.,
