Campaigns on Display I tell you folks, all politics is applesauce —Will Rogers
T
his summer and fall, the Barry County Museum will feature displays of past election campaigns, including many items on loan from the Chuck Nickle collection. The Nickle’s collection contains many interesting posters, buttons, and other memorabilia from the presidential campaigns of Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barrack Obama, as well as items from the bids made by Dukakis, Stevenson, Goldwater, McGovern and Wallace. In addition, local politicians such as Gene Taylor, Larry Gene Taylor, and Emory Melton are represented. So, if you feel like taking a stroll down memory lane, or just aren’t gettin’ enough political ads on the television, come down to the Barry County Museum and see how it was done yesterday. The Barry County Museum recently lost a valued volunteer, Sue Blythe. Sue was very knowledgeable about the Cassville community, coming from a lineage that included prominent Barry County figures Jacob Hawk, Rev. James T. Brattin, and Rev. Calvin Henderson. Sue and her husband, Larry, were long-time operators of the Cassville Bowl. Sue was also featured in Volume 9 of Lifetimes of Memories, an oral history collection published by the Barry County Museum. Sue’s energy will truly be missed here at the Museum.
