MEDIA RELEASE Date: August 26, 2013 For Immediate Release September a Busy Month at the Cultural Centre HALTON HILLS, ON – Since the reopening of the Cultural Centre amenities in 2013, the staff of the facility have been excited to get programs up and running. The Cultural Centre is excited to be celebrating the national Culture Days with a week of events and performances and is kicking off several multi-event series during this festival. “It’s fantastic to see that the Cultural Centre is so active, and that it offers so many alternatives for the community. I am really pleased to see the Town’s investment in the renovations and upgrades making such an impact on the Town,” says Mayor Rick Bonnette. The Halton Hills Cultural Centre is proud to be hosting the following exciting ventures: In the Sisnett Lobby Variations on a Theme (Art Exhibition) Opening September 11 Featuring the work of local artists who have been inspired by music. On view until November 3, 2013. In the Helson Gallery The Art of Collecting (Art Exhibition) Opening Sept 12 Free to attend The things we choose to collect reflect our passions and say a lot about who we are. This exhibition pays tribute to the art of collecting with selections from the outstanding Helson Collection alongside artworks borrowed from local private collectors. Free to attend – donations welcome The popular Music at One concert series returns to the Helson Gallery. Due to Gallery open hours, it will now be on a new day: Tuesdays. The Cultural Centre is pleased to invite the George Grosman jazz Trio for the opening event. - Cultural Master Plan Launch Sept 28 at 2pm Free to attend The Cultural Supervisor and the Project Lead from the Cultural Master Plan project will be on site in the gallery to explain the recently endorsed plan. This plan recently was awarded a Planning Excellence Award for Best Practice from the New York Upstate APA Chapter. - A Conversation with Fred Helson September 29, 2 pm Free to attend – donations welcome Learn first-hand about Fred’s collection as he discusses his passion for art and highlights some of his favourite artworks from a lifetime of collecting. Selections from the outstanding Helson Collection will be on view. In the John Elliott Theatre Hispanic Movie Series: The Secret in their Eyes Sept 24 at 7:30pm Tickets $5.00 In partnership with the Hispanic Cultural Forum, the JET presents this Oscar-winning film from Argentina. Presented in Spanish with English subtitles. TIFF Film Series: Stories We Tell Sept 25 at 7:30pm Tickets $20.00 The Kick-Off event for the JET and Halton Hills Public Library's TIFF Film Circuit series! Stories We Tell, directed by Canadian actress and director Sarah Polley, was named BEST FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY at the Canadian Screen Awards. This film follows Polley's brave quest to uncover her family's deepest secrets. This event will include a pre-show reception, opening remarks, and a post-show Q and A. The proceeds from this Gala event will go to support the Perchance to Dream fundraising campaign to support the theatre and library. One Book, One Community Event: Dr. Vincent Lam September 26th at 7:00 pm Tickets available from Library Award-winning author, Dr. Vincent Lam, reads from The Headmaster’s Wager, this year’s One Book, One Halton Hills title. Copies of the book will be on sale and available for signing.

Dale Woods and Friends Concert September 27 at 8pm Tickets $25.00 Performed by local accomplished musicians and singers, this concert will reflect music of all types…Classical, Broadway, Ragtime and Jazz. Proceeds from this concert will be go towards the Perchance to Dream fundraising program for the Cultural Centre and Library.
Stand-Up with Sandra Shamas September 28 at 8pm Tickets $50.00 Canadian comedy star brings her uproarious satiric stand-up act for a special engagement to the JET, her hometown stage, for one night only. Proceeds from this concert will go towards the Perchance to Dream fundraising program for the Cultural Centre and Library. Except where noted otherwise tickets for most events can be purchased at the box office at the Cultural Centre at 9 Church Street.
