Welcome to the 2017 Spring Icebreaker, Scouting’s Founder, Sir Robert Baden Powell wrote: ”The training of Boy Scouts is done mainly by means of games, practices and competitions…” It is this concept that guides the selection and implementation of the competitive events for the 2017 Spring Ice Breaker. It is our hope that, in preparing for participation in this year’s Icebreaker, Skippers, Crew Leaders and Scoutmasters will seize upon the opportunity to teach new skills to the young people in their unit, or to enhance skills already possessed. As these skills are mastered and demonstrated by individual Scouts, specific requirements for Rank Advancement or Merit Badges may be met, and certified by the unit leader. In this way, the organizers of this year’s Spring Icebreaker hope to provide a tool for units to improve their advancement record, and an avenue for individual Scouts to increase their knowledge and skill. In the descriptions of the year’s Icebreaker competitions, you will find references to specific Rank or Merit Badge requirements addressed by this event. While participation in any particular event does not necessarily qualify a scout as meeting that requirement, leaders may assess for themselves if those requirements were met, either in competition, or in practice and preparation for the event. Thank you for joining us at this year’s Spring Icebreaker! Area 6 Officers and Committee
