Weekly Incident Summary September 19-25, 2016 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, September 19, 2016 00:53 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Main St N in Acton. Ambulance and Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff assessed the vehicle and found no issue and cleared the scene. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 08:09 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of 22 Sideroad and Highway 7. Halton Regional Police and ambulance were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff stabilized both vehicles and cleared the scene. 10:53 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a gas leak on Sierra Court. A contractor digging with an excavator struck a natural gas line. Fire crews arrived on scene and homeowners around the area were notified and sheltered in place. Union Gas arrived on scene and clamped the leak. 11:27 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Third Line in Acton. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who was burning without a valid burn permit. The fire was extinguished and the homeowner was advised to obtain a burn permit for any future burns. 14:00 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a grass fire in the area of Ninth Line and 10 Sideroad. On scene fire staff extinguished a small grass fire in the field adjacent to Ninth Line. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 00:09 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Ontario St. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who advised it was an alarm for the pump on their septic system. The homeowner reset the alarm. 00:48 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible gas leak on Barber Drive. On scene fire staff entered the home and using gas detectors found zero readings. The homeowner had shut the gas off to the water heater and opened the windows prior to arrival. No further concerns. 12:37 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Barber Drive. On arrival staff found the structure evacuated and the alarm panel showing alarm on the 2nd floor. Crews checked the building with no fire or smoke found. The alarm panel was silenced and reset, with no further problems. Unknown cause of the smoke alarm activation.

13:48 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on McFarlane Drive. On arrival the alarm panel was showing an alarm activation from a detection device in the parking garage. Water being used in the parking garage renovation is believed to have caused a fault in a detection device. To prevent further false alarms it was decided that the pull station and ancillary devices in the area of construction will be isolated from the system while workers are present. Signage will be installed advising residents of this action in the affected area including calling 911. Halton Hills Fire Prevention to follow up. Thursday, September 22, 2016 12:20 Hours - Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on Niagara Trail. On scene fire staff entered the home and found heavy gray smoke coming from the stove, with no flames visible. Power to the oven was shut off at the main breaker. It was determined that the warming oven in the bottom of the stove was used to store combustible fabric. The warming oven was accidentally turned on and ignited the material. The oven was removed from the home and the homeowner was advised to replace the unit. 16:22 Hours - Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Raylawn Cres. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings. The homeowner was advised to replace the existing CO detector. Friday, September 23, 2016 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Mountainview Rd S and 10 Sideroad. Halton Regional Police were on scene upon arrival. Fire staff checked for injuries and were cleared by Police. 14:48 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a vehicle leaking gas on Trafalgar Road. On arrival found a vehicles gas tank leaking. The leak was stopped and absorbant applied to the spilled fuel. No further action required Saturday, September 24, 2016 09:26 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on McFarlane Drive. On scene fire staff met with building personnel who advised that the smoke detector in the hallway on the 6th floor had activated. On the sixth floor there was a smell of burning, but no smoke in the hallway. Fire staff checked the roof top where crews were dismantling a radio tower using saws. No issues could be found. The alarm was reset and taken offline until work was complete. 16:07 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint in the area of Fourth Line and Highway 7 in Acton. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who was burning fresh green material cut from a tree and did not have a valid burn permit. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained for any future burns.

Sunday, September 25, 2016 16:22 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Henry Street. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who was burning yard waste and did not have a valid burn permit. The fire was extinguished and the burn permit process was explained for any future burns. 23:29 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision at the corner of Ninth Line and 5 Sideroad that had collided with the guide wires of a hydro pole on the North West corner. Ambulance was on scene upon arrival and was providing patient care. Fire staff disabled the vehicle by disconnecting battery power.
