From the Rector’s Desk…. I am excited about the monthly Concert Series Mr. Herring has lined up for the coming year. The series will begin in October. I will share more details once everything is finalized. The concerts are open to everyone free of charge. Plan on attending these wonderful events and bring your friends. We are happy to welcome back our Adult Choir from their summer vacation. The Adult Choir sings at 11:00 am mass on Sundays and practices at 10:15 am in the choir loft. Their gift of song adds much to our Sunday worship. The Cathedral Parish has long been known for its outstanding music program. If you would like to be a part of this fine program, please call Bill Herring at 4536677. Today (Sunday) we begin our RCIA program. This is the process by which a person becomes a member of the Catholic Church. If you are interested or know anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the church, please have them give Deacon Ray a call at 453-6677. He will be more than happy to help. I am happy to announce that our parishioner, Jason Koshinskie has been accepted at St. Mark Seminary. Jason moved into St. Mark Seminary at the end of August. Many of you know Jason from his involvement in the Knights of Columbus and the Adult Choir. For the next two years, Jason will live at St. Mark Seminary and take classes at Gannon University. Following his two years at St. Mark Seminary, the bishop will assign Jason to a four-year major Seminary where he will continue to take classes in preparation for Ordination to the Priesthood. Please keep Jason in your prayers as he discerns his vocation to the priesthood. What an exciting time it is for Jason and our parish family. Congratulations to Katelyn Sheehan and Nickolas Peterson who were united in the Sacrament of Marriage here at St. Peter Cathedral. May God bless them with many happy and healthy years together. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Catholic Education last weekend. Your prayers and support of this collection ensures that our parish will continue to have opportunities for lifelong learning of the faith. If you missed Last week’s Catholic Education Collection and you would like to participate, it is not too late. Use either the envelope in your offertory packet or a blank envelope and write Catholic Education Collection on it. Envelopes may be placed in the collection basket or mailed to the parish office. Thank you again for your generosity.

“Catholicism: The Pivotal Players” will continue in Synod Hall on Wednesdays from 7:00- 8:30 PM, through October 18. All are welcome to attend. There is no charge for the program. Registration @ [email protected] will help us plan seating and refreshments. St Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) was a Dominican Friar and a Doctor of the Church who is considered one of the Catholic Church’s greatest theologians and philosophers. He is well known for his Summa Theolo gica in which he wrote in part on natural and theological virtues, natural and divine law, the nature of the soul and faith and reason as primary tools for understanding theology. His ideas impact our concept of the Trinity, the nature of sin, our concept of God and our belief in His existence. Rev. Jason Mitchell, our special guest this week, has written extensively on Aquinas, his philosophy and his impact on the Church. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy and Theology Departments at Gannon University. He received his PhL, PhD, S.T.L. and S.T. D. from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome where he also taught and was a translator. He has traveled in the Holy Land and brings a tremendous perspective on the world, religion, scripture, and church history to our pulpit on a regular basis.
