Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Living & Deceased Members of the Parish Thomas R. Colvin (Colvin Family) James E. Spoden, Sr. (Symphonic Singers of Erie)

Life Teen Mass, St. Joseph, Bread of Life

ERIE, PA

From the Rector’s Desk…. Next Sunday, October 8 at 2:00 pm we will host the 23rd Annual Rosary March. This Rosary March is sponsored by the World Apostolate of Fatima. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. As you know, October is traditionally devoted to the Blessed Mother. What better honor can we give our Blessed Mother than to pray the rosary. Congratulations to our former Director of Religious Education, Sr. Mary Mark, RSM, who celebrated her 70th Jubilee last Saturday. Sr. Mary Mark served faithfully here at the Cathedral under the leadership of Msgr. Slater and Msgr. Biebel. I have fond memories of Sr. Mary Mark as my elementary school principal at St. George. We thank Sister for her many years of dedicated service here at the Cathedral and wish her 70 more happy years of Religious Life!!! On Sunday, October 29 at 12:00 noon, we will have an important parent meeting for those children in our parish in Second and Third Grades who will be receiving their First Reconciliation and First Communion this year. It is important that all parents be present so that we can explain the new policy for preparation and celebration of these two Sacraments. The meeting will be held at St. Joseph/Bread of Life Community on the second floor of their Community Center. I look forward to seeing all of you there for this important meeting. Have you ever thought of remembering St. Peter Cathedral in your will? What a great way to ensure that the great things that are going on at St. Peter Cathedral will continue to live on even after you are gone. Work continues on the wax removal from the marble in the Cathedral. The crew has been working in the evening following the 5:15 pm Mass so as not to disrupt the daily schedule here at the Cathedral. They are removing the wax from the marble in the back of the Cathedral and slowly moving down the center aisle. You will notice that the color of the marble is lighter without the wax. Congratulations to Amanda Lopez and Kirkland Pyles, Katie Bach and Mike Sabolcik who were united in the Sacrament of Marriage here at St. Peter Cathedral. May God bless them with many happy and healthy years together.

There are still plenty of openings for weddings in 2018. If you are interested in getting married here at the Cathedral please give me a call at 814-453-6677 and we can schedule your wedding. I will let you know when we open the 2019 Wedding Book. We are already getting requests to schedule weddings for 2019.

“Catholicism: The Pivotal Players” will continue in Synod Hall on Wednesdays from 7:00- 8:30 PM, through October 18. All are welcome to attend. There is no charge for the program. Registration @ [email protected] will help us plan seating and refreshments. St Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) is well known for founding the Franciscan Order. Did you know that Francesco was his nickname? His given name was Giovanni di Pietro, but his father, who loved all things French, was in France when he was born. The name stuck. You might be surprised at many other things you will learn about this well-loved saint. We know well his simple life style, his dedication to the poor and his love of animals. Bishop Barron shares more of Francis’ life, especially his conversion experiences and his call from God to “build my church”. Join us on his Feast Day, October 4th, to honor his legacy by learning more about his life and impact on our church. He and St. Catherine of Sienna, who we will meet on October 11th, are co-patrons of Italy. Dr. James Menkhaus, Assistant Professor and Chair of Gannon’s Theology Department and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pastoral Studies and the Honors Program will be our special guest. Dr. Menkhaus received his PhD in Systematic Theology from Duquesne University after completing his B.A. and M. A. at John Carroll University. He has studied and published extensively on Ignatian Spirituality and Social Justice and leads service trips and retreats in the US and Ecuador. Dr. Menkhaus provides wonderful example of the charisms of service and scholarship. CLASS SCHEDULE 10/4- St. Francis of Assisi w/Dr. James Menkhaus, Assistant Professor, Theology, Gannon University 10/11-St. Catherine of Sienna w/ Dr. Aaron Kerr w/ Assistant Professor, Philosophy, Gannon Univ. 10/18- G. K. Chesterton w/ Dr. Daniel Betti, Visiting Professor, Political Science, Gannon University

All are welcome to pray the rosary on Wednesdays following the 12:10 Mass in the Cathedral
