August 22, 2016 Dear Parents of Advanced Learning Students, The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) has asked RMC Research, an external organization, to conduct a review of the MMSD Advanced Learning Department. The review will help determine the extent to which the district is meeting the needs of Advanced Learning students. RMC Research would like to know your opinions as well as your levels of satisfaction with the Advanced Learning identification process, instructional support, and any impacts participation has had on your child. Additionally they are interested in your opinion on what is working and what can be improved. Contents of the focus groups are confidential and participants will be asked to sign an assent form agreeing to be part of the group and to abide by the confidential nature of the group. Parents of children identified as Advanced Learners are invited to sign up to participate in one of the focus sessions listed below. To hear as many parents as possible, we are holding parent focus groups during the weeks of September 26 and October 3. ● September 26, 2016 at Jefferson Middle School Three focus groups will be held between 4:306:00 and another three focus groups will be held between 6:30 8:00. ● September 27, 2016 at Huegel Elementary School Three focus groups will be held between 4:306:00. ● September 28, 2016 at Wright Middle School Three focus groups will be held between 4:306:00 and another three focus groups will be held between 6:30 8:00. ● October 3, 2016 at Sennett Middle School Two focus groups will be held between 4:306:00 and another two focus groups will be held between 6:30 8:00. ● October 4, 2016 at Black Hawk Middle School Two focus groups will be held between 4:306:00 and another two focus groups will be held between 6:30 8:00. ● October 5, 2016 at Lapham Elementary School Two focus groups will be held between 6:30 8:00. Focus groups will be limited to 12 people each and so will be on a first come/first serve basis. Only one parent/guardian per family may attend so that we may hear as many voices as possible. You may sign up by contacting the Advanced Learning Department at (608) 6635201. Only phone call RSVPs will be accepted so that we can keep a current list of invitees. If the list for your prefered date is full your name will be placed on a list of alternates and we will contact you if someone on the list cannot come. If you are not selected, you may also contact us directly with any feedback you want to give. Just send an email to the project director–Shelley Billig at
